Although I have seen both these movies several times, I never realized this connection between them until researching my latest Qland quiz on Academy Award winners:

the actor who played Spicer Lovejoy (Cal's right-hand man) in the 1997 version of "Titanic" was David Warner. One of Warner's first acting jobs was to play the humorless Mr. Blifil in "Tom Jones."

The 1963 version of "Tom Jones," with Albert Finney, Susannah York and Hugh Griffith, is one of my all-time favorites, second only to "Moonstruck."

Heh, would it be completely tasteless to make a joke about the connection actually being between Titanic and Davy Jones?
