M.Night has pulled off another masterpiece.

The filming was breath taking, the script was superb, and the acting was incredible.

Without going into excessive detail that might ruin the movie, the social commentary presented was very intriguing.

The audience does not learn the true nature of the Village until fifteen minutes before movie's end.

Kudos to Joaquin Pheonix, William Hurt, and the others for their acting.

M. Night Shyamalan is a very good director. Seems a little odd to me though...I'll have to go see "The Village"...it looked interesting...anyone see the Sci-Fi Documentary on him??? If so...What did you think???

I'm afraid I'm going to have to humbly disagree with the masterpiece statement. I found it to be a disappointment. But to be fair I was going into the movie expecting what I've been seeing on the commercials, so I'm thinking I'm going to see a supernatural thriller that will have a shocking twist ending, my mistake. I agree the acting was good with cudos to Opie Cunningham's (Ron Howard) daughter as Ivy. But I was able to guess a few of the twists before the end (although I didn't get the end surprise but then again I didn't really care by then). I guess what I can say is if you are planning to go see this movie don't go expecting the same intensity or surprises as "the Sixth Sense." It's not that type of movie, I would even go far to say that it's more of an Rod Serling's Twilight Zone episode type movie.

Personally, I was MORE than disapointed with this movie. I thought the ending was horrible and do not think that it was "shocking". I think that this movie was hyped up really big and was a tremdous let down. It was totally unrealistic. I don't want to say too much more because I don't want to spoil it for anyone that wants to see it but do not have high expectations.

Maybe I'm the only one who knew what was going on in "The Sixth Sense" after just 20 minutes in, but it was a pretty darned good movie. I didn't see "Signs" and I haven't seen this new one yet. I did see a thing about M. Knight on TV where it was alleged that he changed the ending at the last minute. Did he? I don't know. But, if he did, then the continuity of the picture was pointless, in my opinion. In "Sense" the story knew where it was going right when it started. I'll catch "The Village" when the DVD comes out, though, I think.

Like I said before, I liked it.

The area the movie was shot in, the Pennsylvania Appalachian's, is not too dissimilar from the mountains of north Alabama or Tennessee except for far less pine trees in the movie.
So when Ivy was running through the woods, it reminding of my childhood.

Plus, I'm also a romantic. I wish I could've been Daniel Boone or Natty Longstockings, go romping through the woods with only a Kentucky rifle and my wit, and enjoy life distilled into the mere basics.

Perhaps if I win the lotttery, I will do what I've been threatening to do for a decade and buy a couple hundred acres of Montana or Alberta.

The ideals presented were beautiful ones. Anyone who has lost family to violence would want to revert, at least temporarily, to a utopia where murder, assault, and rape did not exist, and that where death was only by "natural causes".

I just saw this movie yesterday, and I did like it. At first I was like, "Why isn't it more scary? I thought it was going to be scary!" But the ending did surprise me, and I thought the acting was excellent. I especially felt for Adrien Brody's character.

I can understand that people want to go back to a more simple way of life.... but to lie to your kids and scare them to death? I don't think that is too ethical.

Hey, roku - please don't type in CAPS LOCK.

Also, please tell us *why* you didn't like it. What in particular made you feel this way? It's one thing to say 'the movie was horrid', but to say 'the movie was horrid because the acting was so bad' gives us a little more information and furthers discussion.

I also thought "The Village" was excellent. It is not a horror movie; it is a psychological suspense thriller. The movie resembles the style of Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling more than Shyamalan's other films. I've read on this board and in other places that many viewers are disappointed at the ending. I was not. "The Village" shows the power of fear, and its power is mostly subtle and intellectual. You can't simply sit and watch this movie without THINKING about it.

The character development in this film is quite impressive, and that's really where the movie's power lies. It's within the characters, their fears, their suspense, their revelations. Bryce Dallas Howard's performance is particularly noteworthy, and I look forward to seeing her in future films.

Another kudos for this movie: its decency. No profanity, no sexuality, and very little violence. Such a refreshing cinematic experience, and the plot and characterization were not compromised either. I'm a Shyamalan fan, and I hope that he continues to make films of this intellectual caliber, as well as this level of decency.

I cannot wait to see this movie. Signs was one of my alltime favourite movies, and whether this compares or not, is irrelevant. Shymalan has such a unique way of presenting his movies, that at the very least, it will probably make it worth the $10 I shell out.

Ending aside, I did like this movie. My sister guessed what was going to happen about half way through but she thought,"No, that's too ridiculous." But she was right. My favorite parts were when Ivy was holding her hand out for Joaquin's character (can't remember his name) and he grabbed it and it was all in slow motion and the music was very well done; also when Joaquin is telling Ivy how he thinks about her so much that he can't concentrate on his chores. *Sigh* I loved that part. I think Shyamalan is a good writer but he seems to be full of himself. I read somewhere that the Sci-Fi documentary was all his idea to generate more publicity for his movie. Which I guess is a good idea money wise but if you try to build a movie up THAT much then it can only be a let down. But without concentrating to much on the ending, I find that period of time to be terribly romantic ANYway so it's not like I didn't enjoy myself. And as corny as it sounds, that's what movies are all about.

I DID like the movie, it was not at all what I expected. The twists Shymalan has in his films are incredible! They always get me hyped up. ~SPOILER~ I was kind of bumbed when Lucius got stabbed. I was really starting to like his character, and hoping for some nice fighting scenes! I also thought that Adrien Brody (sp?) did an excellent job as Noah.
