I know they gave 5 stars to the latest Beastie Boys cd. Usually every issue in the review section, they list a "Rolling Stone Hall of Fame" record which most of the time is a 5 star rated album, such as Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks".
I can't think of any other recent cd's they've issued 5 stars to, maybe Radiohead or whoever their pet artist happens to be. I get a kick out of reading the magazine's revised ratings for records they once hated but now love. For example, a RS critic once dissed Kiss'"Alive" lp when it was released but now they praise the album as a classic. I guess the original RS critic must be dead or retired.
The only RS critic worth reading or believing, to me anyway, is David Fricke, who pens the "Out There" column every issue. Fricke would probably be better served if he wrote for a real music magazine such as Mojo, Amplifier or The Big Takeover.
