Hmmm, MOST of my music would fit in the category of music I like but my friends would roll their eyes at. However, probably the most fitting would be my records of Georges Moustaki, a French singer.

I am a classical singer, but being from and having grown up in Ghana, West Africa, I have a very eclectic taste in music and will listen to anything that in my opinion sounds good. That said, I find that my inner being really resonates with Eastern classical and/or pop music (Rai, Bollywood soundtracks, Turkish/Greek...). Apparently, the reason for this is attributed to the Arabic word "tarab," which atempts to explain how one can enter a trance-like state under the influence of such music. Are you still awake?

Triviasoprano, I loooove Manilow but I've seen other people go into a hypnotic trance-like state when they hear it in an elevator. But I think they're just trying to stay awake! I'll have to do some research on "tarab."

I'm a punk rock chick at heart, but I really like Neil Diamond. Go ahead, giggle if you must.

Oh man. Let's see. When I was 12, I bought Queen's A Night at the Opera. ALL my friends rolled their eyes at me! A couple years later, Wayne's World came out, and suddenly everyone wanted to borrow my tape. Nobody bothers rolling their eyes at me anymore. I'm the kind of girl who LOVES to roll the windows down and turn the music WAY up if a good song is playing on the car radio. And I've turned more than one head when the song in question happens to be Beethoven rather than Black Dog by Led Zepplin. Nothing cooler than rolling down the main drag with Moonlight Sonata blaring from your stereo! But, I suppose my strangest musical closet-skeleton is a love of classic country AND Chris LeDoux. In most cases I will not listen to country, but who doesn't love Johnny Cash? And Chris LeDoux is about the only new country star I can even stand. But he IS from Wyoming, just like me... There's something about "Country Western" that is just different when it is done by someone who is actually FROM the WEST instead of Nashville, etc. When I say I don't like rap, I really mean it. The closest I come is Beastie Boys. When I say I don't like hip hop, I mean that too. I don't care what some idiot is doing buck naked on the bathroom floor, and if he gets caught, so much the better. But when I say I don't like country, well, I might be fibbing just a little.

Rolled eyes for a musical passion is a sign of a closed or narrow musical mind. Well, that's what I tell myself when after listening to my beloved surf instrol, garage punk and Afro-funk, I toss Mandy Moore, Tony Orlando or Bread in the player. I don't care who knows I love cheesey exotica tunes. Some of the best trip-hop sounds like it might have been sampled from such sources.

Oh man, I absolutely love Bread! I wanted to use Make It With You in my first wedding but my bride's cooler head prevailed. But it's still a lovely song.

Alright, I'll take a bite out of this apple, let's see...
Danny Come Home by Nana Mouskouri
Yes, I know, I'm sad, but my mother had an album called Bobby Dazzler when I was very young and that song was on it, and although I am a singer myself who has the exact same voice resonance as Elton John and I am a child of 80's music, I found my mums old copy of Bobby Dazzler but it was scratched badly, so I started downloading each of the songs on it and Danny Come Home was the first one I got...lol

Outwardly, I love the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, Stones, Beatles...basically a lot of the bands on the Classic Pock stations. These are the bands that I play when my friends are around
The CDs that I listen to when I'm by myself are, Alanis Morissette, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Kid Rock, 3 Doors Down, and Sheryl Crow.

I openly listen to rock (punk-rock? You could call it that) and like it, but there is something I love listening to more, inwardly.
Cast recordings from West End shows; on my CD rack you'd be able to find:
-'We Will Rock You' the original London cast recording (OLC, for short)...probably my most prized CD! -'Les Miserables' OLC -'Miss Saigon' OLC -'Phantom of the Opera' OLC 'Little Shop of Horrors' movie soundtrack -'Starlight Express' OLC -'My Fair Lady' OLC -'Oklahoma' OLC
and a few others that I won't mention. Did that achieve any laughs?!

Laughs, no. Fond memories of numerous stage shows, yes! Probably one of my favorites would be Fiddler on the Roof. Who can hear "If I Were A Rich Man" and not sing along with it!? Thanks for the memories.

It's becoming more and more difficult to find anyone else who still listens to Billy Bragg. I also just spent an eternity trying to download a song called "O Lori" by the Alessi Brothers, I suppose an indie/rock fan like myself wouldn't normally be found listening to a song like that (prays that no-one remembers it)

I'm in love with alternative, but most people don't know my life revovles around Gwen Stefani and No Doubt. In otherwords, my secret musical passion is 3rd wave ska.
Also Bjork. She scares me sometimes, though.

Hmmm... I never concealed my musical preferences, so I dunno whether I could call anything a "secret" musical passion... but my taste in music is extremely broad and ranges from Metallica via Silverchair to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Puccini - to name the "extremes". If I have to describe my taste in music, I always do it like this: everything (well, almost everything) which has to do with rock music in its many variants (as opposed to techno, hip hop, and mainstream Britney-like pop music), which includes grunge, alternative and heavy (though not too heavy) metal alongside with classic rock, punk rock, ska and britpop. That's my line of music (you get the picture...) Plus I absolutely love musicals and operas. Every now and then, there's something I like which doesn't quite fit in, but there's no real pattern to it... ... that didn't really answer the question, did it?

Well, traditionally, I'm really into BritRock and Indie. Lush, Pulp, Blur, Republica, I love them all. Garbage and Franz Ferdinand float my boat, as do Siobhan, Butterfly, and Kate (both Bush and Aumonier). I even like Lacuna Coil and Apocolyptica - Metallica on cellos. Tori, Poe, and Alanis are in there, too.
Secretly, I quite like a lot of 80's stuff, and the good ol' cheesy Eurovision circuit stuff. I also like Goldfrapp and Utada, mainly for being music geniuses, but my big shame is Vanessa Mae. I love that bird with her violin. Her album, Storm, is incredible.
So I'm a BritRock/Britpop/Indie/Solo Female with a bit of euro-pop and semi-classical in there. Oh, and Enya when I'm in the mood.
But never, EVER "R'n'B" - I think most people would agree with me...

If we could just replace every terrible, ear destroying R&B and Rap act with someone more like Steps, the world would be a much more saccharine place!
