Sportdaq - sport stock exchange is a game set up by the BBC website and involves the trading of sportspeople according to their coverage in the media. Each player starts with £10,000 and you can 'buy' as many or as little shares as you like in each selected sportsperson.

For instance, with the tennis on at the moment there is a fair chance that tennis players will be in the news so you could buy shares in your favourite tennis player but you'd have to remember that those shares might go down once the US Open is finished.

It is an English website so you have to remember that the media coverage would be based on English exposure and that the list of sportspeople are mostly English.

We cannot see who each other have invested in, only the total amount of money each person has so the fancy graphs of the normal tipping competitions are out of the question but Ozzz or I will do a monthly roundup of standings of each player and we can chat and speculate who the leader has picked to be so far ahead or just how Ozzz manages to be last in a comp again.

So if you're interested click here to go to the BBC Sportdaq site, register you name and then you will have to PM me or post in this thread your ID number (which will be next to your name) so I can add you to the Fun Trivia League. We'll give it a few days to see what sort of interest we get and get people in the league and then we will start trading on Friday 10th September and run it until about Christmas time - or however it goes.

Please note - there is a gambling aspect to this game although ONLY VIRTUAL MONEY IS USED. If you're a minor please discuss with your parents before joining up.

Given that you don't know who Hilary Duff is - I think we can decide you aren't a minor ...

but thanks for asking

That's the one - and you're in the pending list with the rest of us ... 4 so far. After we start trading and gain a position on the Sportdaq ladder then we get put into the ladder of the FT league which might take a day or two after trading starts.

Anyone got any suggestions or questions?

(edit to change sportdag to sportdaq ... although the former could well apply )

Would you call this a line up of the usual suspects?

Okay, so BlinkyBill, Nannanut, marchmadness and Gtho all added to the list alond with Copago, Bearcage (Wez), Spanishliz, Ozzz and Elf. Usual suspects indeed, nanna!

Even if you're still in the pending list by tomorrow when trading starts it doesn't matter, you can still trade and it'll all be remembered when you slot into the chart.

(SG, your reply is in the other thread in the tipping comps, was just a pointer to get the tipping junkies over to this forum )

Go through the links on the left of your portfolio page and there's instructions on how to play, rules and what not. But basically it is like the stock exchange, when the shares of your sportsperson go down and you start losing money then perhaps it is time to sell them ... or would you hang onto them knowing they've got a big game on the weekend and will be media fodder? It's up to you how you do it. You can spend as much on as many players as you like (up to the £10000 limit) and sell and buy as often as you like. There is a 1% commission on all transactions - buying and selling too.

How about we start in 24 hours(ish) from now? so Friday morning for the Aussies, Thursday night for the Poms, and the ones across the pond ... ummm Thursday afternoon is it??

Umm, either you meant 48 hours from when you posted, or the days are Thursday morning, Wednesday night, Wednesday afternoon - I think.

(I have thought that it was Weds most of the day today, but it wasn't, tomorrow is... )

Yes lol, I think it's like anything that there will be a flurry of activity and then we'll settle into a more realistic way of doing it - if you get to much up can I ask you to start another account so we all about even when we start?
