This one I really don't know... I think it has to do with western America. And I'm not sure what "good man" is supposed to refer to, but it seems like a key hint. Any ideas?

To fill some bellies, this good man changed something miltary into something culinary. What is his name and what is the eating innovation.

I spotted this thread in the "Who's Online" listings. I'm not too hot on American history, but I love riddles and cryptics so maybe we could pool resources here.

Kitchener sprang to mind immediately when I read the words "military" and "culinary" but I don't think that's right as he was British.

"Good man" generally refers to Saint/St, someone in the church such as Dean/Deacon, or a biblical name like Adam or Abraham.

Does Lincoln ring any bells out there as a possible candidate?

I don't think this is a cryptic clue. The answer is Charles Goodnight, a cattle rancher who transformed an old army wagon into a chuck wagon - the cowboy's travelling kitchen.
