Hey all you Survivor fans! Well, here it is, it's time for a new season of Survivor to start! I hope it will be interesting, and I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know the new contestants. And anything has to be an improvement over last season!

Is anyone else looking forward to watching Vanuatu?

Oh yeah, I put the spoiler alert in the title for future reference, if this thread takes off.

And thanks so much Gatsby, for helping me clear up the spelling issue!

I'm so addicted to "Survivor" that it's almost scary! I'll be watching/taping for sure as I don't want to miss a beat. Who could really overlook this intrigue? In the years it has been on the winners were a gay (brash) father, a fellow who had a stint in soft porn films, that Tina who knew just what she was doing and did it up right. Watching "Survivor" is much like a Sociology Class. I'm looking forward to this new one.

Actually, this isn't a dumb question at all. I do know that it's an island that's a part of a large group of island, but at the moment I am drawing a total blank as to the exact location of Vanuatu. Sorry, but my brain's fried at the moment! I'll get back to you as soon as possible on where it is. I do know that cannibalism was practiced until quite recently (1970's) on this island! Spooky!

Let's just hope that we don't have another Rob and Amber thing this time! Blech!

Gotta love Google.. From the official site:

Quote:

Vanuatu is a group of 83 islands in the South West Pacific,
North East of New Caledonia and North West of Fiji, governed
as an independent Republic by its indigenous people.
The Ni-Vanuatu, as they are known, are a peaceful, gentle race,
who enjoy life's simpler pleasures in a country of unique and
diverse customs and culture..

Once you mentioned recent cannibalism, I had a feeling it was near Fiji.

Mmmm, Aussies know Vanuatu as a somewhat expensive holiday destination . . . as for Survivor - I must confess to having the PC Game (eek) and to looking forward to watching a bunch of Yanks (no offence) make absolute twats out of themselves as they couldn't collectively TRULY survive on their own in their own backyards (lol, lol, lol)!

Are you saying that you could outwit, outplay, and outlast all these American castaways?

I wouldn't be surprised.

No offense.

The new season of Survivor starts tonight! Unfortunately, I'm going to miss the first episode as I have to work on a really difficult project. But at least I'm recording it!

Our friends run a survivor pool every season. I have Brook and Rory this time around. At least Rupert is the "celeb spokesperson" on the commercials. It will be curious to see how the women vs men turns out this time again.

I'm not too wild about the men vs women thing because I thought it was a terrible idea in the Amazon! That group of women could not do anything collectively together, all they basically did was lay around and whine about the conditions. And all the men did was drool over the women! I thought it was pathetic. But if that doesn't happen this time, then I'll be pretty happy. I just think that if you separate the sexes, there's too much drooling and goo-gaa-ness, and that's not why I watch this show.

Just a question of curiosity. I watched most of the first season of Survivor. The people did things I would never consider doing. For example lie, stab one another in the back, talk behind each other's back. Seems that nothing was not acceptable to win the game.

What is the draw of this program? I mean nothing disrespectful, I am just curious as to why it is such a hit. Has it changed since the first season?

Watching people run around on a pretty tropical island without much in the way of clothing?

I must say, since the first "season" when Richard Hatch won, the viewership has dropped a little. This is their ninth place to be and it is starting to get run into the ground a little bit.

I forgot to set my tape machine for the premier Thursday. Does anyone know if the network plans to re-broadcast the episode? I believe they've done that before, on the following Saturday or Sunday night, but I'm not finding anything in the TV listings.

McG, I don't know if you're on broadband, and even then the images are kind of blurry, but here you can find the first episode cut into four 10-15 minute Windows Media Player pieces. Hope that helps...

I'm on dial up and a beastly slow connection at that. I have a 56k modem that has never been driven over 28,800 kbps. It won't stop me from trying that link. Thanks!

It is a slow load but I am getting the clips and the picture is nice and clear. Thank you so much, Leau. It may take a day or two to view all the clips, but I have until Thursday and with the synopsis, it will be enough to bring me up to speed.

Did anyone catch the show? I have to agree with a previous poster, that I like it less when it is women vs men. Invariably there is comments about how hot the girls are etc. This time it was prompted by the host during tribal council. Of all the things to discuss (strategy, loss of event etc), the hotness or lack thereof would be a distant concern.

It's to soon for me to know all of the characters. There are obviously some that made an impression, both good and bad. I hope the best for Chad and wish Eliza didn't spout off as much.

It was a very interesting beginning especially with the climbing of the greased pole, the secondary nature of women and the pig sacrifice. Any thoughts?

Yay, I finally watched it over the weekend! So far I like it, although I wasn't very happy with who was chosen to be voted out. To me, it just didn't make any sense. I would have really liked to have seen the person who actually lost the challenge for the tribe go as I think this person is a jerk. But then, that's not always how Survivor works.

As for the men vs women thing, I'll be okay with it if the men don't drool over the women and the women actually get some work done around camp. We'll see how that goes!

Interesting episode with balance coming into play again. The "Sarge" barking orders and telling Rory to shut up was a golden moment, I just didn't like the Sarge's comment after the event was over.

I was glad the person voted out was voted out. They alienated themself right at tribal council stating they got along with everyone a little to well, placing themself in a unique position of swing vote. Fellow tribemates sure showed that person wrong.

Curious to see how the next episode plays out especially as the teaser indicated a member from each tribe is to be eliminated. Hmmmmm...

Yeah, that was a very cool episode! And how about that reward challenge?! That was awesome! I could not stop laughing. I don't know, there's just something amusing about watching guys being forced to grope and hug each other.

I was happy that the person who got voted out was voted out too. This person did not have a clue as to how to play the game and was very naive. Next week looks interesting as well.

Yes, Survivor is always trying to add new twists to the game. I'd like to see how this turns out.

Okay, two interesting turn of events. Two voted off not one, and one person able to give another immunity. What do you think of the choices voted off? On the girl side I was very happy. On the guy side I was less then happy.

I wondered at the choice of voting off two. Is it due to time constraints with this being election year in the US?

Any comments on the episode?

I agree with you on both choices. The girl was asking for it. Tearing a strip off a tribe mate isn't going to take you to the end. The constant eye rolling was a sure sign of immaturity, I was glad when Jeff pointed it out at Tribal Counsel. It probably confirmed for a particular Tribe Member that she should go. I also couldn't believe the things she said at the end of the programme, no gracious exit there.

Amy, on the other hand, should go far. Being a mediator between the two factions may help to get them to become a more cohesive tribe.
