It's interesting, anyway. I can see how it could be a useful educational tool. Lectures can be recorded and stored, non-audio files can be saved for upload to computers later. Music can be listened to while walking between classes. (I'll always argue that music is important in general.) Basically, it's as though they've given their students tape recorders, stacks of floppy disks, a walkman, etc.
