I'm always curious about the different foods from around the world that are mentioned in these forums. I've tried Vegemite - different to Marmite and an acceptable alternative - so I thought I'd try Anzac biscuits when they appeared in my local supermarket in the UK. They are the real thing - baked in Australia - unlike Oz beers, which are brewed in Britain without flavour.

The strapline - "A delicious blend of butter, oats and golden syrup" - caught my eye. The only problem for me was the unmentioned ingredient of desiccated coconut, which is not one of my favourites. Still, they are good for dunking and a contribution is made to veterans from the armed forces for each packet sold. Has anyone else tried these Australian exports?

I make my own Anzac Biscuits and I've never put desiccated coconut in them because I don't like the stuff either!

Maybe you should look for some without the coconut, probably a tad difficult to find though . . .

Just for interest value, what's the brand name of the one you tried (just a curious Aussie here . . .)!

You're right about the lack of choice, Engadine. These were made by Unibic Australia Pty.

Never heard of 'em . . . not suprised though . . . they don't sell them in the supermarkets here, obviously their products are for the export market. Can't help you anymore than that, other than to send you my recipe for Anzac Bisucits (coconut free) !?!?!

Feel free to post the recipe Engadine!!

I can't think I've ever seen them sold in supermarkets - maybe fresh baked ones in a corner shop but not big chain shops.

Did anyone go through high school cooking class and not make ANZAC biscuits??

Just when I needed it most, I don't have it, well I do, but it's currently not accessible and even though I remember all the ingredients, I'm not sure of the measurements - when I get Word back up and running on my pc I'll be able to read the disk onto which I so cleverly saved all my recipes (so far I'm up to C in the alphabet, only several hundred more recipes to go, lol!)

I loved Anzac bisuits! I even got the recipe off the internet when I got home from Australia. They were delicious. I don't remember them having coconut. I hate coconut.

It took me awhile to discover what Anzac meant- Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.
