Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense, is heralded as one of the greatest directors in film history. I've watched many of his films, and I'm currently on a quest to watch them all as they become available for rent or air on TV. Here are my favorites:

Vertigo (1958)
North by Northwest (1959)
Notorious (1946)
Rear Window (1954)
Shadow of a Doubt (1943)

What are your favorite Hitchcock films?

Ah the master of suspense.
Tough choice to make a top 5 but here goes:

Rope (1948)
Rear Window (1954)
North by Northwest (1959)
Psycho (1960)
Frenzy (1972)

... and the Hitchcock turkey goes to Marnie (1964), worst film he ever made in my opinion.

Here are mine:

Secret Agent (1936)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
Sabotage (1936)
The 39 Steps (1935)

To tell you the truth, I don't like his later stuff. Especialy 'North by Northwest', it felt very commercial.

I love "The Birds"! I still find myself getting nervous around crows that seem too energetic!

I like Cary Grant a lot, but his movies with Hitchcock aren't really my favorites and I prefer the screwball comedies. Grant was sort of smarmy in the Hitchcock films and the May-December relationships in the latter ones put me off. I suppose Notorious and Suspicion were OK.

My favorite Hitchcock movies are The 39 Steps and Psycho. I really like the nonsensical speech Hannay makes in The 39 Steps. "I know what it is to feel lonely and helpless and to have the whole world against me, and those are things that no men or women ought to feel." Sums up how a lot of Hitchcock's protagonists felt, no?
