'Total Film' magazine published its top twenty greatest British films of all time. Obviously there are some great films here, 'Get Carter' and 'The Wicker Man' are two of my favourites, but no 'Zulu' or 'Long Good Friday'!?
Personally I didn't like 'Withnail and I' or 'Naked' at all, but we all have our own preferences.
Here is the top twenty as voted by the readers of Total Film.

1. Get Carter (1971)
2. A Matter of Life and Death (1946)
3. Trainspotting (1996)
4. The Third Man (1949)
5. The Life of Brian (1979)
6. The Wicker Man (1973)
7. Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)
8. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
9. From Russia with Love (1963)
10. Naked (1993)
11. Billy Liar (1963)
12. A Clockwork Orange (1971)
13. Withnail and I (1987)
14. Great Expectations (1946)
15. If… (1968)
16. Kes (1969)
17. Brighton Rock (1947)
18. Don’t Look Now (1973)
19. Sexy Beast (2000)
20. Brazil (1985)

Does anyone have their top 10 British films (or even a top 5)? Mine would have to be:

1. Get Carter
2. The Long Good Friday
3. Zulu
4. That'll Be The Day
5. The Wicker Man
6. Goldfinger
7. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
8. Quadrophenia
9. Scum
10. Don't Look Now

Here are some British films that I've enjoyed:

Shadowlands (1993)--Great biopic about C.S. Lewis
Scrooge (1951)--My favorite version of "A Christmas Carol"
Sense and Sensibility (1995)--A lovely film based on Austen's novel
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)--One of the most spectacular war movies ever made

I never liked any of the British films except Saving Grace - set in Scotland and London, I love the Carry On films if they count

I forgot about "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" (1969)! What a great film. I watched it again this past weekend, and I was amazed again by Maggie Smith's magnificent performance.
