Hi
I hope someone can help out. I don't usually use Windows Media Player 9 for anything. However my daughter went to a legal music download site for Canada called Puretracks and bought some music. Now the licences require you use Windows Media Player to burn the songs to a CD. The player has in the device list Roxio CD Burning. When we click on the copy button the player says Easy CD Creator buring engine not found, do you wish to download it. When I do that it takes me to a roxio site where I have to purchase their software. I thought you could copy on Windows Media Player 9 as long as you were coping WMA files. The Puretracks site doesn't say anything about having to buy anything extra just that you need the Windows media player 7.1 or better. Any ideas.

I am using Windows me by the way.

What operating system does your daughter use?

A quote from this Microsoft page

Quote:

Note Roxio CD Burning is only available on computers running Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows 2000.

Looks like the licencing must have changed.

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice the bit at the bottom of your post about using ME. Have to think again

Thinking hard...

I burn stuff all the time on Media Player with no problems. Can she play the songs on the player? If so, you can usually just drag them to the burn list, and burn. I believe I use versiou 9.0. I have whatever the latest one is.

Yes she can play the songs. On the player after you've opened the copy to CD or device, there is a drop down menu that displays the devices that the media player recognizes (I'm guessing here). In the list is my card reader and the Roxio CD Burning. Do you have this drop down box, if so what does it have in it. I'm wondering now if its not recognizing my hardware.

I am using version 10. on version 10 there is a thing on the side where you can select which list you want to look at, one is the burn list. You then drag the songs you want to burn to it, and click "start burn." Maybe you can upgrade to version 10 and try that.

Sorry, I didn't realize you're from Canada. If the upgrade is only availible in the US, I guess that won't work. Maybe you can pretend to be from the US?

I believe version 10 is only for people with Windows XP anyway and I have Windows Me. Boy I am really not liking Microsoft, and not just because they're the big guy on the block but because they don't support their past versions of anything. Not everyone can afford to upgrade everytime they bring out something new. I know I'm going to sound paranoid but I'm beginning to think they purposely write bugs into the software to keep people thinking they have to buy the newer better stuff.

Don't worry. 9.0 is better than 10.0 anyway because 9.0 gives you more options.

What more options does 9.0 give than 10.0?
