I agree, that seems to be the trend in many contemporary sitcoms. It's in stark contrast to the dads on TV shows 30 or 40 years ago, shows like "The Brady Bunch," "Andy Griffith Show," "Leave It to Beaver," "Bonanza," "Father Knows Best," etc. I don't know what has caused this drastic evolution in the TV dad, but a sitcom dad can be funny AND respectable at the same time, not just an idiot. However, to a large extent, what's on TV now reflects what the networks believe the majority of viewers want to watch. I am not a part of this majority, even though I'm a young adult in the target 18-34 TV audience. As a result of my different entertainment tastes, I prefer to indulge in classic TV shows and films.
