In 1962, I bought a $0.50 ticket on a raffle, and WON! The prize was a 12 gauge shotgun or $250 in merchandise at a local hardware store. I opted for the merchandise and had a wonderful time shopping! In 1967, I bought a $0.10 bingo card in our local NCO club (Non-Commisioned Officers) and won a season ticket for 2 to all of the Air Force football games. And, here I was on my way to Viet Nam! Needless to say, I gave the season tickets to a 'buddy' who promised to sell the tickets and send me the money. I never heard from him again.

Well I enter post card comps, not the telephone ones And I am reasonably lucky. I got £100 of board games about three months ago, which has been put aside for my friends children for Christmas!

When I was younger (maybe 6?), I won my mom a $500 clothing shopping spree. She was looking for clothes and I got bored, so filled out a contest entry form for her. Her name was picked and when they called, the person on the other line said to my mom "Now I'm sorry, but I have to ask how old you are." When mom answered, the person replied "oh, ok - it was just the handwriting on the entry form looked very young!"
Mom ended up buying me a pair of 'cool' cowboy-ish boots that were in fashion at the time (mid-1980s).

One prize I won caused me some consternation, it was a year's supply of toilet rolls. Our local radio station played a 'guess what I have here' game, you won whatever it was they were describing. The clue was that it was 6 inches by 6 inches - I phoned and said a toilet roll just for the hell of it, I was correct! Fortunately they actually gave me £50 to buy them rather than the rolls themselves.

So far this year has been quite lucky for me on winning prizes....not only did I win the Egypt trip (yep, I'm one of the mods who have won a holiday). I've also won in the summer £500 for pulling a bottle of Smirnoff out of a block of Ice and then the following week a bottle of Champagne (£50 approx) for getting the fastest lap time on a Formula One computer game.
The only things I have won in the past have been a portable stereo in a raffle at a pub and a mountain bike from a computer company when I got the fastest lap time in their game.
I'm thinking of buying a lottery ticket this weekend to see if my luck holds out !! LOL

I last year I won through to the final of a radio competition for tickets to a concert, prize for getting to the final was a couple of cd's. In the actual final I didn't get a single question correct! Thankfully of all my friends listening in not one of them got an answer correct either.

Oh yes, but like Sue, mainly from the radio. Weekend breaks in Hotels... Macau was one of them. Lots of CD's and tickets for cinemas and concerts, The best of those was 2 tickets for Santana and a signed CD. Restaurant meals, one was a big New Year's do in a big hotel here. Tee shirts and hats and stuff. I don't do them so much now. Congratulations Sypher. Egypt! Brilliant! Will we get to hear about it?

My wife demanded a cell phone for those long winter drives to the city for work. I won $2500 in travel vouchers from the cellular company. I entered with purchase and didn't even know it. It paid for a trip to DisneyWorld.

I don't generally ENTER things, so I obviously don't often win. I play scratch-off type lottery tickets for fun, and have won a few dollars here and there. Other than that, the only contest I remember winning was a Halloween Costume contest. It was at a western outfitter in Sheridan, WY, when we still lived up there. I was 4, my sister was 2 and my mother had made our costumes for us that year, as every year. I was a clown and Jen was a billy goat. We won 1st and 2nd prize. We both got Moon Boots and my parents got some money as well.
And I don't think I've won anything since.
