In last month's Great Brain Quiz our team submitted the answer of 49 to the following question, based on the principle that working in pairs from the inside out the totals were 72. We were convinced we were correct -- but how wrong could some uf us be when only 30% of the contestants got it correct.

Hi Bannockburn,

I think the answer is 47. If you look at the serie, you'll see that the numbers are all primenumbers. The serie goes from primenumber number 9 to 15. The missing number might then be primenumber number 16 witch is 47.

Sorry to say there is no typo.

The fact that 49 ( the wrong answer ) works in the question as posted is regrettably the proof.

Also, as you have correctly pointed out, 35 is not a prime number.

your best shot's a bull, so 50 isn't in either, neither is any double or triple of the numbers 1 to 20 ... yep, a great question, and the sequence chosen by the creator stopped at the first even number above double 20s, just to throw everybody off
