Changes to the website means you are now restricted to being a member of just one group.

There are two ways, either ask someone to invite you to their group or, if you know the group number follow these instructions...

Go to My Stats & Quizzes (at the top tight of the page).
Look halfway down the page and you will see Friends and Family, click on that link.
You will see Set Up Friends. Click link.
Join - enter the group number in the box provided.

I suspect you are wanting to join a HP group, why not post in the HP thread in The Book Corner and ask if there are any members of a HP group who would invite you to join?

I have just discovered that you have formed your own group, #3200. You can only be a member of one group at the time so would need to leaave that group (making a note of its number) before joining any other group. Always keep a note of the group numbers so you can return.

Ginny, if you are interested in HP you might like to take note of the post earlier in this thread...

Ginny on the 'Set Up Friends' page where your group is listed there is a 'leave' option roughly in the middle of the page. Once you hit that you'll be out, but as Sue says above, make sure you keep a note of the number of the group in case you want to go back.

Just a note to let new forum members know that some of the Friends groups are "by invitation only".

When you go to the home page for your prospective Friends group, please check the Join Setting to see whether the group is open to everyone or by invitation only.

If you type the group number into the box, are you in that group still if it is invitation only????? I just joined one. By the way, when you join a group, what do you do? Are there special activities for that group or what? Just Wondering...

Lol, Ginny, shouldn't you have wondered about that before joining a group?

Every group has its own message board, and on the Friends Page you can access all members' quizzes and group statistics. If you play the Global Challenge your score will count for your group in the group vs group rankings. Also, some groups create quizzes together. I guess it depends on the group you're in, some are more active than others.

Ginny, technically, if you know the group number, you can join the group. But it would be rather like gatecrashing a party. If the join setting says "by invitation only", then good manners dictate that you would need to be invited by another member of that group. Alternatively, if you don't know anybody in that group and you really want to join, you could ask the person who created the group if they would allow you to join.

Most people join a group because they share a common interest. The main activities are chatting to each other and playing as part of a team in the global tournament.

Ginny, send them a Direct Message through the Notes system, or a Private Message through the Forums. Tell them a bit about yourself and why you think you would like to join the group, maybe ask a bit about the group, and ask if they accept 'invitations to be extended an invitation' (as such!).

What MotherGoose is saying about the 'invitation only' setting, however, is that it is there so the members of that group have some control over who else joins. Moreover, it should probably be viewed as an indication of what type of group it is. Those which are mostly interested in the Global Challenge scores generally have an 'open, anyone cane join' setting, the more the merrier! But those which are more centred on using their Message Board as a semi-private place for friends to meet and chat about specific interests tend to use the 'invitation only' setting.

I left my last group but now I have another problem. I was trying to see how many members the group that I made before has, but when I typed in the number, it was a different group altogether. I don`t know what happened, does anyone have any ideas? By the way, how do you send a message to the starters of a group to ask them to invte you to join? I am not sure hoow to do it.

Ginny, if you know someone who is in the group you started you can ask them what the number is by sending them a message (see below). Otherwise, if you can find the group or a member listed in the Global Challenge or other quiz stats you should be able to click on the name and get in that way.

To send a message to another member, from any page of the Forums and click on 'My Home' at the top left of the page. Then click on 'Send a PM' (Private Message) and type in the name of the person you want to send the message to.

To send a message through the Notes system, go to the main FT home page and click on Check Mailbox (also top left, where you got the message about your quiz). At the top you can type the player's name in the box next to 'Send a note to player:' You will also find a 'send note to player' option on each member's personal info page (which you get to from clicking on their name from one of their quizzes or just about anywhere their name appears apart from in the Forums!)

This is assuming you know their name! And remember you have to type it in exactly as it appears on the screen, and that some players (like you) have different names on the forums.

Hope this helps! But do remember what Leau said about not giving out personal information - most of the people on this site are friendly and helpful (as you have already found out! ) but unfortunately you can't ever be sure what people's motivations are, and who else might be able to access the information you send.

Caitlin, go to this page and click on the founder's name (it says "founded by" somewhere near the top of the page). Then on the next page, click "send a message to ..." and then you can enter your message.

If you don't get a response from that member, you might want to try messaging somebody else from the link I gave you, as it's possible that the founder of the group is not around anymore.

Caitlan, I do hope you haven't given your email address to a perfect stranger - not sensible. We strongly advise that you do not give any person details about yourself, it is better to remain anonymous for your own saftey. By personal details we mean age, location, even your proper name (remove it from the public profile), email address etc.

I didn`t give my e-mail address to anyone. They are going to contact me via the notes system or the private e-mail system.

There is no private email system at Funtrivia, presumably you mean Private Messages.
