It hasn't done me any good knowing this, but the person who runs the Brain of the Internet told me his wife came up with that last set of letters.

I'll put my thinking cap on, but methinks the £20 might be safe for another 5 years! [Confused]

Is interest still accruing both on the prize money and the puzzle? [Big Grin]

There's no sort of pattern to follow, it's just guesswork as to what the link could be and then see if any of the letters fit the bill.

Some of the other annual winners have been really obscure and solved within days - so what chance is there for this one!!! [Big Grin]

Do they not set a new one until the last one is solved, Gt?

What evil little minds some people have when they set brain teasers like that. I'm with Izzi, the twenty pounds is safe from me. [Smile]

(where's the pound symbol on a keyboard? must have to go in to the funny symbol board. For British keyboards it would be on top though, wouldn't it? [Razz] )

I have to say this is unbelievable! My lord a series puzzle that has yet to be solved. I have never been able to solve many of these, so I know I won't even try this one. Sure would be nice if the person solving it was from FT [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
Don't you think, maybe we should go out and hire someone!!! [Razz] [Razz]

Pound symbol? Do you mean this? #

It is above the 3 on QWERTY keyboards. Or were you talking about something else?

Nope, not that one, Sean. I'd call that the number symbol #.

I mean the Pound symbol for the Brits which equivalent to the Dollar one for the USA. Quick little check through the character map and I found it ... £ ... and the key stroke is alt0163 which seems a lot to go through for people that would use it often.

So, any Brits that read this ... do you have a key on your keyboard for it?

Yes Copago, our £ sign is above the number 3. We also call # the 'hash' sign which has it's own key on the far right of the middle row of characters.

If you haven't got a pound sign on your keyboard, you can print one by holding down the Alt key and typing 156 or 0163.

Let's check:

Alt + 156 gives £
Alt + 0163 gives £

But it won't work in Ask Fun Trivia, and I don't think it works if you have the Mackintosh operating system.

Does the person running "Brain of the Internet" actually think that people are still trying to figure it out? The only way that someone will stumble across the answer is by investing weeks of research, but it's not worth it for only 20 pounds. They may as well give the answer and start a new one. As it is, they have effectively put "Brain of the Internet" in a coma.
