What does this error message mean?
Yesterday my computer seized up after I received seven or eight pop up ads in quick succession, each one just a few seconds after the previous one. I got an error message about a modem error: DSP couldn't load, 1010 failure. What does that mean? (My dial-up speed is 56K.) After shut down and start back up, the computer (and modem) seem to be OK.

I don't know but if everything worked OK after the restart, just heave a sigh of relief

This sort of effect smacks of malware. Best to run all the usual spyware checks and a virus scan to be on the safe side.

Thanks, Tellywellies. I thought it might be because they all came in rapid succession and the modem got "its legs crossed while running."

A good expression ...and a fitting one. We have a similar expression here that would have described it as, dare I say, 'got its knickers in a twist'. Both mean it became so confused it couldn't do the job properly.

Have you scanned the system for viruses and spyware?

Just got latest DAT files. My AVG anti-virus has not found anything for two weeks (run it every few days). Spybot always finds a few things (about 10) but they get deleted (keep coming back, though).
