I watch many British comdeies, such as As Time Goes By, The Vicar of Dibly, Waiting for God, Chef, Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers, amoung others. I've recently purchased the Blackadder collection, and have come to the conclusion that this is the funniest show ever. Any other Blackadder fans out there?

I have to say that it's the best stuff Rowan Atkinson has done. I can't watch buffoonery like Mr. Bean , I even hated Some Mothers Do Have 'Em when I was a kid. I like the way they took the characters through time in different periods of history. We had one of them as an inflight movie on a trip from Aukland to Sydney years ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm sure wez will be around soon to add his comments on Blackadder. I have all the series on DVD also. Blackadder I wasn't brilliant, but the rest are great. "Blackadder Back & Forth" was another good one.

I love Blackadder. Miranda Richardson was brilliant as Queen Elizabeth.

Always makes me 'laugh out loud' GS, no matter how many times I watch it.

Like SG says.......(has anyone noticed the 'Blackadder' type irony here? ), if you can ignore the 'trying to be cleverly funny in a Monty Python type way which failed miserably' debacle of BA1, I totally agree with you.

It always makes me immensely proud of the British sense of humour when people of other Nations compliment Blackadder. I feel like you truly understand our Island mentality? And our willingness to take the p... out of ourselves in an affectionate and not too hurtful way.

I could be wrong, but how ironic that would be!!!!

wez, I absolutly agree, Blackadder I is very weak. I'ts lucky they continued the series. Also check out the site called Blackadder Hall. It's everything you ever wanted to know about Blackadder.

I absolutely adore Slackie ! But agree with all of the above, as 'I' wasn't a patch on the others !

My all time favourite is 'Goes Forth ' - we get re-runs here on Foxtel and watch it avidly.

I have a cunning plan . . . I'm going to have to get the boxed DVD set for my partner for Christmas - the perfect gift!

Blackadder: "Get me a chisel & some marble, will you, Baldrick?"
George: "Oh, you taking up sculpture now, sir?"
Blackadder: "No, I thought I'd get my headstone done."
George: "What are you going to put on it?"
Blackadder: "Here lies Edmund Blackadder, and he's bloody annoyed."

My favourite series is Blackadder the Third. I think Hugh Laurie makes a great Prince of Wales. The end of Blackadder Goes Forth makes me cry every single time I watch it. Good to see the show is still so popular.

I agree, the end of Blackadder Goes Forth is very sad. If I had to pick a a favorite series It would Goes Forth. I think it's probably the funniest over all. Lines such as-
"You want me to sit in no mans land and paint pictures of the Germans."
or sauted rat-
"First you marinate the shaved rat in a puddle for a while."
"For how long?'
"Untill it's drowned. Then you stretch it out under a hot light bulb. Then get within dashing distance of the latrine and scoff it right down."
Series II, III, IV are all laugh out loud funny.

Like so many great comedians, Rowan Atkinson is at his best when playing a 'serious' role. The Mr Bean series and films do nothing at all for me, and the first Blackadder series when he was the 'idiot' was just plain stupid! Although he played the incompetent agent in Johny English, the role was neverthess 'serious', so again he was hilarious.

Black Adder IV:

George: Sir, what do we do if we tread on a mine?

Blackadder: Well the standard procedure George is to jump 200 feet up in the air, then scatter yourself over a wide area.

Oh Darling!!!!

Now Blackadder Goes Forth!! Awesome and very very clever, and what a wonderfuol but yet poignant way to end it all...by going over the top of a trench....we will never quite know what happened to them all.....but we should all know what did.
