I have transferred my MP3 files from the PC to my laptop. I used Winamp on the PC on Windows 98 to play music files but on the laptop I use Windows Media Player 10 on Windows XP.

My question is does Windows MP have problems playing MP3 files? When I play the MP3 files sometimes the track might skip a few seconds or go back a few seconds and replay that part of the track again. On the whole, I can't listen to all of an MP3 file for some of the files. This doesn't happen to all of the files though.

I know there's nothing wrong with the MP3 files because I played them heaps on Winamp and they worked fine.

I have a feeling it is something to do with Windows MP because doesn't it typically play WMA files?

I haven't noticed any problems with MediaPlayer 10 but you could try installing Winamp on the laptop and see if the files play OK using that. XP is a bit more demanding on computer hardware specifications and MediaPlayer is probably a bit resource hungry. This could have a bearing on the trouble. If the MP3 files play OK with Winamp then perhaps just use that on the laptop too.

Are you familiar with how to associate files to applications? You may need to associate mp3 files to Winamp once it is installed (although the set-up procedure may do that for you). Also, if the problem isn't cured by using Winamp, you may want to re-associate them to MediaPlayer. It's nothing too difficult. Just a question of exploring the options in both players and ticking boxes.

I could be wrong but I heard that certain Media Player 10's had a virus with them that could make a file skip i guess.

Mmmm... I use Windows Media Player 10 on my laptop and only play mp3 files and never had any trouble. How did you copy your files into your laptop?? Maybe some got corrupted in the process (sometimes when you copy too many files at the same time it might happen).

I would try the same as above download Winamp into your laptot and that would let find out if what's not working ok is the Windows Media Player or if there is a problem with the files themselves.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ceci
