I appreciate any information given, thanks

I'm sure this is the right forum, I was curious a while back and basically you can get a basic one or one with a radio. The usual price is from about £100 (160 Euros) but you can get the odd bargain. Also most seemed not to have speakers, so if someone's likely to use it for more than one person, you'll need to make sure it's got them, which of course adds to the price. Like radios think about whether you may want a mains lead for heavy users, and then once you set a budget you can go up to something like an Ipod with a much bigger memory. So it really depends of how many tracks they expect to save and whether they want it to carry around or use as a normal player in a room. I have never used one as I decided to bung the lot on a cassette at the cost of around £1, and can listen to it anywhere I like now, but I believe it would be impossible to have one that couldn't copy data from a computer as that's the usual way to get them. If you have Tchibo shops where you are they had the cheapest I came across but they change their stock every month.

I was able to get my mp3 player for about $75 (£39, 56.43 euros). It had 128 MB of memory on it, so I bought a 256 MB memory card (same type that fits into some digital cameras) for another $75.

If price is a concern, shop around. You can look on store websites and also go into stores to find the best deal.

Are you considering a CD mp3 player? This looks just like a CD and plays regular CDs, but you can put a ton of MP3s onto a writeable CD and play it in the player. They're cheaper than things like iPods and other small MP3 players as they're around $30US.

Thank you Satguru, ChrisSchu and ladymacb29, that's more infomation than i'd thought i'd get, at least we'll have a good idea of what type of mp3 player to get him. Never heard of Tchibo shops before. there is only two places in town to buy them, and they're dear places so maybe it'd be cheaper to buy online, although we would have liked to see it before hand, then again maybe it'll be cheap enough because it's so close to christmas.
