Does anyone know what the rectangle font symbols means? I tried to post one here but all I get are codes, such as  They are a choice in Microsoft Word and in Word Perfect. With names like WP Math B, Estrangelo Edessa, Latha and Mangal for the same rectangle they don’t seem to “do” anything.
Can someone illuminate this bone head?

I don't understand the question, then I can be thick at times. I have turned to WP and selected some of the above named fonts and just don't understand what you mean. Do you mean when you press certain keys that you get a box instead of a character? I have come across that when there isn't a symbol for a certain key, I can't give an example but have had that happen in the past.

When I go into WP and brouse the fonts available, these rectangles show up as font selections. Being the curious sort, I selected one of the rectangle fonts and began typing. All that appeared, instead of letters or symbols, were rectangles. What do you get?

The rectangles are in place of a letter as your computer cannot 'find' the font! I get it at work a lot as I use heaps of different fonts, a lot I've downloaded and sometimes I even have to send the printer font files as they can't find some of the weird and wacky fonts I use! Usually your computer will try to substitute the font it is 'seeing' with something similar, if it doesn't find anything, you'll just get a rectangle - don't ask me why a rectangle, I have no idea! Hope this helps!

WP Math B should be a set of mathematical symbols, like parenthesis, 'parts' of boxes etc . . . the others I've never heard of and I don't have WP on this PC so I can't look!

So that's the problem! Thanks, Engadine. I tried typing text with those rectangles as my font selection and then blocked the 'text' and switched fonts to Times Roman and what I typed suddenly changed from rectangles to readable text!
Now I have to find out how to make the actual font code load properly.

You need to have the font files on your pc for them to work, they may be listed in Word and WP, but may not actually be on your system so they won't work! If you find the Font Folder (I can't think where it is right now, sorry) you can check if they actually exist! And you can, like me, download hundreds for free from the Net!
