I believe that the idea is to turn him over to the new Iraq government. So I think there are waiting for the election before turning him over for trial by his countrymen.

Strange, I read nothing in that "beat-up' report that indicates that the US is responsible for the delay. The onus seems to be on Iraq to put a case together and procede from there.
The "reporter" certainly has a flair for dramatic exits...

Lol here`s another great exit.

Sue,, I am going to just take a wild guess that you are not a Bush fan.

I think most of the world puts the rights of Saddam near the bottom of any priority list.
Personally I would not care if the rats ate his ears off. And I am going to bet there are a lot of folks that would do much worse to this monster.
No matter what he gets it will never be enough.
But his fate can wait until a governing body can make the decisions.

Yes, Saddam had his first day in court months ago, but that was for his arraignment which is the initial appearance before a judge in a criminal case. At an arraignment, the charges against the defendant are read, a lawyer is appointed if the defendant cannot afford one, and the defendant's plea is entered.

This is a part of international law. If this matter was left to the International Court in the Hague, it would take years for the arraignment and many more years for the trial.
