XP operating system is it? If so, try the following;
* Click on the 'Start' button.
* Hover the mouse on 'Settings'
* Click on 'Control Panel'.
* Double-click on the 'System' icon.
* Select the 'Hardware' tab in the dialogue box.
* Click on the 'Device Manager' button.
* Click the '+' sign next to 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives'.
* Double-click on the CD-ROM drive.
* Select the 'Properties' tab in the dialogue box.
* Make sure that the box is ticked next to where it says 'Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device'.
* Make sure the the CD player volume slider is not set to 'Low'.
If this doesen't work and the CD drive has never played CDs, it may be that the 'audio out' lead that runs from the CD drive to the sound card hasn't been fitted.
