The mother of a friend remembers a poem/limerick about ARCHIE which is an acronym for a parcel of air, being read over the tannoy where she worked during the war; it goes something like "Archie was an air mass, Archie wished to grow ..." and as a disbeliever in the net has challenged me to find the rest of the poem, can anyone help?

I found this on a WW1 slang site, but cannot find a poem or mnemonic for it.

"ARCHIE-Enemy antiaircraft shells bursting in the air - Supposed to be a derivative of Archibald a part in a popular comedy whose remark was not to-day Archibald and at one time a pilot is said to have made the same remark to shells bursting very near his machine.

See also ‘Black Archie’, ‘White Archie’."

Thanks for trying. I got some stuff about the air mass from Google and Yahoo but I think this doggerel was from WW2 rather than WW1. Linda
