I read recently of a small charitable organisation called 'Joliba Trust' which is active in the desert areas of north Africa. One of their current projects may be of interest to Funtrivia members. This is a study to investigate and improve the habitats of beneficial birds, and predators within their tree planting programmes, the intention being to reduce the damage caused by pest insects such as locusts, etc. The amount of crop loss due to locust damage varies year to year and can be as high as high as 60% in bad years.
If anyone has relevant expertise, or knows someone, who could advise on this or related matters, the Joliba Trust can be contacted at
info@jolibatrust.org.uk and their website is
http://www.manntaylor.com/joliba/joliba.html I understand the habitat study only requires funding of about $15,000 and donations can be made via the web-site.
