I have only read the 'Da Vinci Code' so far, but have 'Deception Point' and 'Digital Fortress' sitting there waiting to be read.
If these books are as good as his first, I will be overjoyed! Ripping stuff!

I am afraid I am not tempted by any more of his books. I found "The Da Vinci Code"completely unexciting, thoroughly predictable. I cracked the codes so quickly it was ludicrous. I can't see what all the hype was about. Just my opinion!

I've only read the Da Vinci Code so far, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I spent a lot of time afterwards researching activities, practices and associations mentioned in the books, so as to form a more educated opinion about the theories he proposed in the tale. This, for me, was an intrinsic part of my enjoyment of his work.
I do not normally read detective, police, thriller or other books of that genre, but the amount of contemporary extraneous information contained in the tale was a good kick-off point for other research. Some of the artworks mentioned were familiar to me, others less so, and I did some research on them. Knowing a fair few of the places he mentions in his book made the story more interesting for me, and it the underlying questions raised about the activities of the church and the cover-ups obviously made me question some of these things myself.
Whenever I get home again I will probably buy a couple more of his books, and hope they are as good.

Being a Management student, I usually believe that greatness ia a fluke.
I have read all four of them but unlike the orginal poster, mine would be 'Angels & Demons', 'DVC', 'Deception Point' and 'DF' I found the last mentioned a torture and merely read it because ... (don't ask me!)
Anyways, I am eagerly awaiting his next book - incidentally a Robert Langdon one based in Indonesia.
Why does he have to start with a murder right in the first page...

I have read all of them. I first read Deception Point, a few years ago, I think. I think right after it first came out. Thoroughly enjoyed it. When I picked up The Da Vinci Code, I didn't realize it was the same author until I saw it in the book that he had written the other. I zipped through Da Vinci Code in about 36 hours (between work and sleep). I then went out and bought Angels and Demons and Digital Fortress. I enjoy them all as good fiction, and I was prodded to look further into the allegations Dan Brown made in Da Vinci Code.
There is so much we don't know about Jesus and Mary Magdalene. There is a huge chunk of his life we don't have a record of - missing from the bible, who knows where it went. Why would he not have gotten married and had children? The best question I have seen raised is this: in those early times, it was expected that a young jewish man would marry and start a family - so why would Jesus be the exception? And here is the most important thing to remember - we were not there, so we will never know the absolute truth, only what we are able to read in the Scrolls (or have translated for us), which are AT BEST second hand accounts, and some of those are from his disciples who were jealous of Jesus' relationship with Mary.
The bible we have today has been edited so many times over the years. It is not the same book(s) that were originally written. Other than the genealogy, I consider it to be slightly better than historical fiction. Some of you may get angry with me for saying that, but that is only my opinion. I wasn't there either, so I can only form my own opinion based on the information I have at hand.
On another note, I see that Ron Howard is set to direct the movie version of Da Vinci Code. Tom Hanks is set to star as Robert Langdon. I love Tom Hanks as much as the next guy, but I do not see him in this role. He is supposed to be a Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones type person (although Harrison Ford may be a bit old to play him now), so Tom Hanks does not fit the character in my mind. Maybe Bruce Campbell - he might be too B-list for Ron Howard, but would be an excellent choice, in my opinion. What are your thoughts?

Yup, I think that Tom Hanks is absolutely the best actor to play the role of Robert Langdon.
Although Hanks is a bit "quiet" (judging by his appearance and personality), it will "explode" and show his intelligence when he starts to think and decipher the codes.
I hope that the movie will be a hit when it is released.
Also, I hope that all 4 novels will be made into movies. Can't wait to watch them!
Regarding ace_sodium opinion, I also think that "Digital Fortress" is a torture for me to read. It's just less interesting, and lack of interesting information.

Like Ren I found The Da Vinci Code to be predictable but I also found the novel to be very hard to put down and very easy to read. Whilst it didn`t tax my brain to any great degree I will be buying another of Browns books. I did find a few of his ideas regarding the Bible and some paintings of interest and did myself also research some of his points. The points made about the painting "The Last Supper" had me intrigued enough to view the painting on a site that has it in very high definition [I lost the link after I formatted]. The more I looked at John the more female "he" became. One other point Brown noted that I found fascinating was the removal of woman from positions of authority. He comments on that in his Official website.. Quote:
THIS NOVEL IS VERY EMPOWERING TO WOMEN. CAN YOU COMMENT? Two thousand years ago, we lived in a world of Gods and Goddesses. Today, we live in a world solely of Gods. Women in most cultures have been stripped of their spiritual power. The novel touches on questions of how and why this shift occurred…and on what lessons we might learn from it regarding our future.
Strange how something so obvious to me now should be only really thought about by having it pointed out.

Langdon is the surname of the guy, brilliant artist I must say though. I'm not too sure about the first name, I think that's different. I've read all the books, and I find Angels and Demons the best, the Da Vinci Code tends to get a bit irritating after a while.

I agree with Shrivats. By 'Angels and Demons' I couldn't put the book down. I swear I read the book from cover to cover. 'The Da Vinci Code' tended to drag, and I felt that the denuoment was uninspired, compared to the one in 'Angels and Demons' which was incredible.

Okay, if John is not John in the painting, then where IS John?

John Langdon is the name of that artist. You can visit his website. www.johnlangdon.net. There are lots of other brilliant ambigrams in that site, including the title of that book, "Angles and Demons". web page

I would say that Deception Point is my favourite book. It's lightning fast, has got plenty of information but then again it's got just the information which will make the story go forward.
I couldn't agree more with that.

I actually finished reading The DaVinci Code today. I really enjoyed it, and like so many other readers I am interested in doing some more research to find out what was truth and what was fiction. I was able to figure out some of the codes on my own, but not all of them. The book was really well written, although in some parts it was a bit too much information at once about the Grail, Templars,... Anyway, I liked the book a lot, and I will definitely read more by Dan Brown in the future.

Something very interesting that I happened to notice today (I completed 'Angels & Demons' just an hour ago): At the end of 'A&D', Dan Brown thanks his editor, Jason Kaufman. Those who have read 'DVC' will be familiar with the fact that Robert Langdon's editor is Jonas Faukman . Ring any bells?

Having read the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, I would have to say DVC is the better of the two.
The books certainly contain a lot of interesting information and are very though-provoking. In my school class, we have had numerous discussions and debates about the books. Everybody seems to get something different from them.
One of the problems I found with both of the books, however, is that these facts seem to take over and leave the plot to fall away. There are a number of flaws in the plots, especially in Angels and Demons, but I don't think that is the purpose of the book. The purpose of these books is to make people think and question, something which is always good, and which Dan Brown has achieved greatly.

I have only read A&D and DVC so far. I really liked them both and looked up the Da Vinci paintings to see what Brown was talking about. I think some of the 'clues' in the paintings have been vastly overstated in the book, especially the ones in 'Madonna of the Rocks' but it was good to read something that made you want to learn more.

I've just finished reading DVC and I can only assume that Dan Brown has taken some inspiration from JK Rowling. This is real Harry Potter stuff (except without the wizardry), but great fun and I read the whole book in one sitting. There are some inaccuracies of course, but just take the book for what it is, a great thriller with lots of twists and turns. Next up is A&D which I hope turns out to be just as good.

I read the DaVici Code first and found it fascinating. Then I read Angles and Demons and thought it was even better that DVC. Something was happing on every page and the geography, art and history angles were intriguing. Next came Digital Fortress which was a disappointment and I found I had to make my self read on, I kept thinking it would get better, but it seemed like a cheap thriller compared to the first two. I read Deception Point last, I found it exciting, but the subject matter didn't rivet my interest the way the DVC And A&D did. I am eagerly awaiting his next book.
