I just got back from the theaters to see 'The Ring 2'. And let me tell you, it was a lot better than the first one. The first one didn't really do anything for me, mostly because the ending was lame. And this one really cleared a lot up for me. It was much more suspensful.

BurgGurl, if you can find the TV version of The Shining, I fully recommend you watch it. It really follows the book storyline. The topiary scenes were great! Steven Weber plays a good Jack Torrance, but nobody can beat the performance of Jack Nicholson in the original. Both movies were scary, but the TV verson follows the book almost to a "T".

I have been wanting to see that version too. The other one by Stanley Kubrick is one of my favorite movies.

I have heard that the scenes with the topiaries are something to see and since that kind of technology didn't exist during the original version's filming the whole scene was lost. It's the reason I always wanted to see the tv version but no video stores ever carry it. Thanks for confirming that info for me, now I must find it!

If you have it, I recommend keeping an eye on the Sci-Fi channel, they sometimes run the tv version of "The Shining".

OK, I just remembered, there is one bad 80's horror movie that I just love. It freaked me out quite a bit when it came out, and my little sister was scared of trees for 2 years, but then, she was 6 and I was 7. But even though I know it's not a good movie, it's still one of my favorites... Poltergeist.
According to the Sci-Fi network's online schedulebot, the next showing of Stephen King's The Shining mini-series (that would be the made-for-TV version, I think) is April 5, 6 and 7, at 11:00pm.

That IS a good movie. It's suspensful and entertaining and somewhat freaky. Movie makers today can look back and see how to make a good pg horror movie

I'll set my dvr to record it!
As for Poltergeist - I've never liked clowns since.

Wanna be really creeped out? I dare you to survive a double feature of Tod Browning's "Freaks" and "Island of Lost Souls", the first movie version of H.G. Wells' "Island of Dr. Moreau"! "Freaks" was made with REAL freaks, no makeup effects (until the end!); Browning spent the early part of his life in carnival sideshows and this film reflects his experience. Bela Lugosi was the Sayer of the Law in "Island" and you can hardly recognize him in his "Manimal" makeup! Charles Laughton packs a wallop as Moreau. This is the best version of the Wells shocker, bar none! If you can get through these flicks without nightmares, more power to you!

Lothruin, I agree with you on Poltergeist. It's one of my all time favorite horror movies. Two others I love are The Haunting ( the original version with Julie Harris) and The Uninvited with Ray Milland.

I've loved the horror genre for as long as i can remember. I was brought up with the classic Frankenstein, Dracula & Werewolf movies from the 30's & 40's. Then there was the b-grade monster movies of the 50's &60's. But i think that horror movies are best when i can't look at the screen because of my anticipation of whats going to happen and not just because the will be lots of gore. Nowadays it just seems that a lot of movies think that all they need to make a good movie is buckets of blood. Nah! one of the earliest and best horror movies i ever saw was one called 'Freaks' made in 1932. It really freaked me out (sorry, no pun intended). 3 of my favourite horror movies of all time are Dawn of Dead(1979),Alien & The Thing . I don't know if it's a coincidence but they were all made around the same time. Just to make up my favourite top 10 here are the other 6(in no particular order) Jaws, Evil Dead, Seven, The Exorcist, An American Werewolf In London and Aliens .
