The show Lost started in Australia today (Thursday 3 Feb) and you may have seen the post Lost! on this forum also. The reason I am starting a new thread is so that Australian viewers may discuss it without spoilers from future shows and also to see what the response of the show is like here. What did you think of the first episode? (For those who missed it, there will be a re-run on Staurday at 8:30pm.) I'm finding this show interesting so far and have a feeling that it will just get better as the story unfolds. It has a good plot and there are a lot of mysteries and questions that need to be answered which keeps viewers glued to the screen. For example, what in the world is that gigantic monster thing. The one that killed the pilot. When I first saw it, straightaway I thought of Jurassic Park .

That has got to be the biggest lead up to any show I've seen for years - and quite well worth it, I think. Lost has got me right in.
And I must have missed a bit but the dog that was watching them when they went to the cockpit - did it come off the plane? Or are we seeing it because it means there is other people there?
Mystery for me is Kate (I think) who said that the man with the half a plane hanging out of his guts was sitting next to her ... I think she knew him more than just a fellow passenger.

Yeah - that was a bit creepy, almost like a dream sequence He was also sitting out in the rain looking creepy there too. No doubt we'll hear more about him. It;s on tonight again too, Blurry, on my channel 7 anyway - 11:30 though

Hehheh! This is really fun, seeing other peoples' reactions/guesses since I've seen it all and know what comes next. Don't worry, I won't spoil anything, I'm not saying a word, just lurking!

I thought the pilot was pretty good, but not brilliant. It felt a bit like a mixture between Jurassic Park and Gilligan's Island But I will definitely keep watching, because some of the characters seem to be quite interesting. By the way: Desperate Housewives just started in Australia as well. What did everyone think of that? I really liked it.

Well, I will just trust you guys and keep watching. It sounds like there is some interesting stuff coming up. Mcgruff, I like what you wrote about people pretending to be somebody/ something else when nobody knows them. That's like in real life when you move to a new city/ country. You try to present yourself in the best light and make the best of your new situation and opportunities. (the only difference being that usually you are not stranded on an island with monsters )

What I found kind of difficult in the first couple of episodes was keeping track of all the names. This is really one of the first shows where there are so many "main" characters (48 to be exact ). Of course all the names have finally stuck with me, so now I know "who's who." By the way, I'm just watching all of your reactions to this fantastic show.

Yesterday, I was talking to my friend about Lost (we were supposed to be doing Maths but this was more interesting ). Anyway, she told me that the monster thing only came when it was raining. She also suggested that it could be a force, like a hurricane or storm because of this observation. Could this be possible, and this monster thing not actually being a "monster"?

A polar bear ??? Oh please. This show showed so much promise last week and I'm so hoping that they can come up with a pretty good reason for this. Make a new genus, breed or whatever it is cause polar bear on a supposed tropical island is just ... just ... just grasping at straws. And yay, I was right about Kate knowing the man next to her. I bet she was being extradited for making bisuits for the woman next door causing her to have a panic attack. Hey, there is a polar bear on a tropical island ... anything could happen. (and indeed the biscuit thing did .. well not the extradition part ... I made that up.) And how bad is the Sawyer character? And how perfect is his hair after days on a deserted island after a plane crash. LIke the hair, dont' like the character.

Me too.
My daughter moved to Oz a few months ago and I've been telling her how great this show is. But I've got to be very very careful not to tell her anything.

I like it how they show the crash from the perspectives of different people. That's a good way to give information on the background of the characters. However, I hope they won't do it for every single character, because I don't feel like watching the crash 48 times:-) Yeah the polar bear didn't seem to make much sense, but let's just see what happens with it. Copago, which one is Sawyer? (I am hopeless with names) One of my favourite lines was when Charlie goes: "I've never been so happy to hear the French." That just cracked me up

The criminal also, that's Sawyer. Don't worry, Chris...I actually went onto the Lost site and looked up the names . Yes, I like how they show the crash from different perspectives as well. And I'm curious to know what Kate did... That powdery stuff Charlie was taking, was that some form of illegal drugs or is it medicine? If it is medicine, couldn't it help revive some of those injured?

Well, Charlie is a musician, right? So it seems pretty clear to me that it's some kind of drug. (Not that I have predjudices or anything. ) Yeah Sawyer seems weird, but he is one of the characters where we don't know anything yet. And just before they went on the hike, he was reading a letter and seemed sad...

Well I thought Charlie was taking a drug. But since I like him as a character (so far) I didn't want to think he would do that. Oh well.
There are so many interesting characters and so many storylines going on, that I can't decide which one is the most interesting. They all are!
I just hope the show can keep up with the good work, and not get too far-fetched in the plot.

>>>> I just hope the show can keep up with the good work, and not get too far-fetched in the plot. Famous last words? So we find out about Locke, actually I quite like his character strangely enough, and that somehow in the crash he can suddenly walk again after four years in a wheelchair. Okay, so he got up a little slowly when he first realized but quickly went running to the aid of another passenger in the crash. I have mornings where I can't walk within the time he took to start running after fours years! I'm going to quietly file this away with the tropical polar bear and hope that they can keep things in lnie a bit with reality. Sheesh what am I talking about? It's a TV show!
