I have just been given a 'boot up the backside' to encourage me to get shot of some of my excess weight. I have aching knee joints, diabetes and my daughter's wedding (in July) all of which need me to lose weight.

I will publically state my weight in this thread each Saturday plus how much I have lost or gained in the previous 7 days.

If any one wishes to join me feel free, the more the merrier. It doesn't matter if you have a few pounds to lose or, like me, rather a lot of pounds!

I reckon that's a great idea Sue. I don't have too much to lose but I am down to one outfit for work and none of my sports shirts fit me anymore. I refuse to buy any more when I have a perfectly good wardrobe waiting to be worn.

I've never done any dieting before but I think my aerobic fitness is okay (badminton 3 x /week). Anyway for every x amount of lbs or kilos I lose I am going to reward myself with a pedicure, or facial, jewellery etc. Something to spoil myself that isn't related to food. Here's hoping

Roll on Saturday.

Are people who need to GAIN weight allowed? My gym trainer is quite concerned about my not weighing enough for my height: he says I have a slight hunch- i.e. posture problem- because of this. I don't know why I weigh so little; I eat (in my opinion) quite a bit, maybe it's just a high rate of metabolism . In any case, I'm supposed to gain between 5 and 10 kilograms, though he hasn't given me any time-frame for meeting this objective.

I also decided to start losing weight last weekend, so I’ll join in. I intend to see how much I can lose before the end of April. My starting weight on Sunday was 15 st 11 lb (221 lb or 100.2 kg).

I won't give mine until Saturday, I shall spend from now until then emptying the fridge and cupboards.

Zero weigh in date will be Saturday. Does this mean Ren and I have to lose weight more quickly ahead of Sue and Tabby Tom?

Yes Achenar, of course you can, if it is a challenge for you, then by all means.

Well I usually weigh myself on a Thursday, but I'll record my loss/gain here on Saturdays! I have some weight to lose, BUT I have lost 2 stone in eighteen months already, and I think another stone should do me fine!

I'd like to throw my weight behind this project! The old ticker isn't behaving itself, and my doctor has told me to shed some kilos. This looks like a great way of going about it!

Just a little tip, I work at a Fitness Club and see the effects of the various diets out there. Fast weight loss in the beginning, comes back. The nutritionist recommends simply following Canada's Food Guide. It provides all you need for healthy eating without a lot of "sacrifice", which usually spells doom for many "dieters". The whole family can eat the same food so that your not preparing different meals. It is outlined here http://www.nms.on.ca/Elementary/canada.htm

There are probably similar guidlines in your own countries. These guidelines and say a half hour of physical activity daily and the weight will come off. Slowly, mind you, but it shouldn't come back. Good luck, all.

Well I am not on a special diet, I've just cut down on a lot of things. In August 2003 I was tired all the time, and after tests, I was diagnosed with"Borderline diabetes", if I didn't cut down on chocolate etc, it would soon be full diabetes and injections every day. Seeming I am terrified of injections, I chose to cut down! Also, I joined my local gym six months ago, and have definately got more energy etc since I have cut down. Long may it continue!

The moment of truth...

13 stone 4 lbs (186 pounds or 84.3681808 kilograms) despite eating fish and chips on Thursday lunchtime (last time for quite some time I guess). I had thought of loading my initial weight so that I could 'do well' the first week but I can't tell a lie. Hmmphn, two months ago I was 10 lbs heavier but lost that over my desastrous Christmas - at least it hasn't come back despite having gone at the rate of a pound a day.

I have no idea how the heck I am going to lose any weight, I gave up eating most things fattening when I was diagnosed as diabetic (diet controlled). I also had to give up smoking at the same time so fought off gaining any weight which normally accompanies giving up smoking. My typical day's intake of food at present is two dry Weetabix for breakfast with butter (I guess I can scrape it on and off in future), lunch is a round of sandwiches from M&S plus a small bag of low fat crisps (chips to you Americans), a banana before I drive home then I have a single course meal in the evening. No desserts, no eating between meals, no sweet/candies, no eating while watching television in the evenings.

I have bought a bag of carrots, I have no idea what I intend doing with them but the thought was there. Tomorrow I am out to a hotel for lunch which makes me glad that I have a whole week before having to announce my weight again.

I am off on holiday at the beginning of May so losing a few pounds prior to that would be nice, losing some prior to the daughter's wedding in mid-July would be even better. Just one stone would be a great help - 14 pounds to the Americans and 6.3502932 kilogram to the people who think in new-fangled measurements.

Now where did I put those carrots...

I have a feeling the walking machine thing in the kitchen might need oiling.

I've been sick for the past couple of weeks, so perhaps my current weight of 58 kgs (or about 9 stone) is an indication of that, rather than any conscious effort on my part to lose weight!

Not a good start to Saturday, but I did host a BBQ for my birthday! I could kill the 9 people who gave me boxes of chocs!
Anyway, I remain around the same as Sue, this is a disaster as I am taller than the little "shorthouse." But I will try hard this week to at least lose the odd pounds and get to a round (very!) 13 stone.
Joni I shall definitely look more closely at the Canada plan, thanks.
I just love your sig, by the way.
Maybe I should buy some carrots too.

Oops! Forgot to weigh in -

Currently I am at 76.5 kg/168.65 lbs/a tiny fraction over 12 stone. If I can get down to 10 and a half stone then I will be happy.

Forgot to weigh in too, Saturday was not a good day for me. 188 lbs, that's 85.5 kg or about 13 1/2 stone. Won't be getting much exercise this next week, so don't expect to go down much - I'll be happy if I just don't go up!

That's great going Tom, and an inspiration to us all. I want to join in here, but know that I'm not ready to start just yet. However, successes like yours will spur me into joining in sooner rather than later.
