Wow Jane - that is amazing. You are doing SO well. I know it took you a while to come off that plateau but you are making huge strides now.
Perhaps I will start making an effort after Christmas, a new years resolution.

I do so hate you! Earlier this week I was in the local chemist shop and saw they had one set of scales at a very special price, they are electronic and not only give your weight in stones, pounds or kilos but also measure your body fat and water. Great I thought and although I didn't actually NEED new scales I treated myself. Huh! Now I wish that I hadn't - how would you like it if you stood on the scales and the word 'obese' flashed up! 10 stone, 12 and threequarters. At least we can be more accurate now! Now peoples, I want to see more of you joining in once we hit 2007, don't leave it to just Jane and myself. Tabbytom, how is your weight, is it staying off?

Hee, hee, my daughter has no scales in her house so I cannot weigh myself! Enjoy your food then worry about it in a week or two.

Christmas recipes to enjoy.
Quote:
Germany. Lebkuchen (Spice Bars)
2 cups honey 5 ½ cups flour ¾ cup grated unblanched almonds 1 tsp. cinnamon ½ tsp. powdered cloves ¾ cup mixed candied fruits (orange, lemon and citron peel) ½ tsp. baking powder Egg White Icing (see recipe below)
Heat honey until thin; do not boil. Mix in all other ingredients except icing. Turn onto floured board and knead until smooth, adding a little flour if necessary. Roll with a floured rolling pin to ½" thickness. Grease and flour a baking sheet and lay rolled dough on it. Bake in pre-heated 350 degrees oven about 20 minutes. Spread with icing while hot; cool before cutting into rectangles.
Egg White Icing
2 egg whites 1 ¼ cups confectioner's sugar, shifted 1 tbl. lemon juice
Whip egg whites until they stand in stiff peaks. Add sugar and lemon and juice and continue beating until thick and glossy. Spread on cake or cookies with a spatula.
Australia. Traditional Christmas Pudding
1/2 lb. plain flour 1/2 lb. breadcrumbs 1 lb. butter 1 lb. brown sugar 1 lb. currants 1/2 lb. raisins 1 lb. sultanas 1/2 lb. citron peel 9 eggs pinch salt 1/2 cup brandy 1/4 lb. almonds 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, well beaten, also brandy. Stir in all fruit and chopped blanched almonds. Add breadcrumbs, flour, soda, and spices. Bake in greased pudding basin, leaving sufficient room for rising. (The pudding can also be poured onto a piece of calico and tied securely with string.) Steam for 6 hours. This pudding can be made ahead of time, say two or three months if wished. This recipe makes two very large puddings; It is best divided into 3 portions. A half quantity takes 3 1/2 hours to cook. For heating pudding when required, boil slowly for 2-3 hours.
Sweden. "POTATIS KORV" (Sweden Christmas Sausage)
2 lbs. lean pork, ground 2 lbs. lean beef, ground 6 med. potatoes, shredded (uncooked) 3 tsps. salt 2 tsps. ground allspice 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 med. onion, chopped
Mix all ingredients well together. Form into rolls about 4 inches long, 2 inches in diameter. Cut waxed paper or parchment paper into 6-inch lengths and warp sausage well, tying both ends tightly with string. Prick waxed paper with a fork (do not prick parchment) and place in kettle of simmering salted water. Cook slowly for about 45 minutes. This sausage is delicately flavored. Some people prefer slightly more seasoning.
From here. Bon appetit all.

I can't work out what happened to me either, I swear that I didn't stray too much but I piled on several pounds.
1st January will see me making a new effort.

I hate you!
I went to the gym twice last week, three times this week and I have GAINED weight! Several pounds. My calves are solid muscle now and muscle weighs more than fat - hopefully that is the problem.
Did I mention a few weeks back about my new scales, the ones that tell me that I am obese? Anyway, despite being heavier they now tell me that I am merely 'over fat' despite the weight gain - so it MUST be muscle.

Seems as if I overindulged on chocolate left from Christmas, one pound on this week making me Nine stone nine pounds But it happens sometimes - it will be off next week!

Well I have had some good news today, my thyroid is underactive! That probably accounts for my weight gain. I had to call into the surgery to collect a prescription and I have started taking medication for it so hope that soon I will drop a few pounds. Watch this space. Jane, I am gald you gained a pound, it makes you human!

Pleasure dear, you have been just far too good recently, especially as my weight increased and I didn't know why! Seriously, I know that you are correct when you say that you will soon lose the additional pound. You have done so well in getting where you have, I will have to try to catch you up!
