Was Vaudeville called Vaudeville in Britain or did they have another name for it back then?
Or is Vaudeville a universal name for all stage acts in the 20's and 30's?

The word was certainly known in Britain, but I think “variety” was probably a commoner word. The Oxford English Dictionary quotes a newspaper article by Bernard Shaw in 1911:

There are vaudeville theatres in America and variety theatres in England.

Thank you. I have always wondered about that and now I know.
