I have two questions about AVG Anti-Virus and here they are:

1. Like a good internet citizen, I always update my AVG. What I do is download the update file manually to a folder called "Updates". Then I use AVG's option of "Update" and choose the "Folder" option. It normally gets updated successfully.
As you can guess, the "Updates" folder is now full of those files. What I'm asking is can I delete the old files while leaving the newest one ?

2. Is SP2 compatible with AVG 7.0 ? For some reason, the XP Security Center says it can't detect an anti-virus program even when I have AVG running. Is this the same with other users ?

Now for the question about ZoneAlarm...

1. Whenever I try to download a file in IE, I get an error page saying "You are not authorized to view this page". It is only after turning off the firewall that I can download the file. Is there any fix ?

On a side note, as my exams are running, I'm really sorry if I'm not able to reply to this thread as soon as some like it.

Thanks in advance,
Angi

1. I'm almost sure you can even delete the newest one after it has been used for doing the update. I'd probably keep it just to be on the safe side though. You could try an experiment and rename the folder with the updates in it (call it xxxx for instance) so that AVG doesn't know where it is. Then run AVG on a full scan. If it runs OK, it can't be relying on anything in the 'Updates' folder to work as it should.

2. AVG 7.0 is compatible with SP2 and should be detected by the Security Centre. I can't offer an opinion why that isn't happening. Perhaps the answer would have to be sought on the AVG forum. I've found the MS Security Centre to be a bit fickle in detecting firewalls and AV programs. I run with it disabled anyway. I'm quite happy knowing that I have a firewall and antivirus program running and updated without needing the Security Centre to tell me that.

Try disabling the Ad Blocking in ZoneAlarm to see if that helps. If it does, try the setting at 'Medium' and see how that goes.
