After seeing the incredible post-apocalyptic thriller 'The Road Warrior' a few years ago, I have been looking for other post-apocalyptic movies of equal caliber. There seem to be slim pickings. The sequel to 'The Road Warrior', 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome' was dreadfull. 'Waterworld' was decent and 'The Postman' is one of the worst movies ever made. 'Salute to the Jugger' with Rutger Haeur was suprisingly good. From what I can tell, the only great post-apocalyptic thriller is 'The Road Warrior'. Does anyone know of any other great (or even good) post apocalyptic thrillers?

Try The Omega Man, thats a bit of a classic.
A real good movie is The Silent Earth (i think) its a New Zealand movie about a scientific experiment which causes everyone on Earth to vanish! Except those people who happened to at the moment of death at that very moment. It appears one fellow is the only man left but as he wanders around the empty city it turns out he may not be. This movie has one of the best twists i can remember.
Theres another movie in Omega Man style, Damnation Alley.
Umm On the Beach is a little different but still post apocalyptic.
Should be quiet a few but im damned if i can think of any.

You could also look up the original Mad Max movie, its not set before the nukes went off and Max was "just" a highway cop.

I think Logan's Run is post-apocalyptic, but it's kinda weird, and doesn't delve into that very much. But I still like it, even if it is cheesey 70's sci-fi. Well, it isn't really thriller, either, it is, as I said, Sci-fi...

Personally, I love the second Mad Max movie, but more for nostalgia's sake than because it was really a good movie. I wasn't particularly impressed with either Waterworld or Postman, but then, Whatshisname doesn't impress me that often.

12 Monkeys is great. It depends on what type of apocalypse you mean. Not all post-apolcalyptic movies are nuclear holocaust flicks.

Another good one, but weird and kinda freaky, is the City of Lost Children. Similar to Dark City in it's imagery and pure strangeness, it's also a very interesting flick, and worth the watch. I think it's french. I'd say it's more of a dark future kind of flick, rather than post-apocalyptic, but still good.

Here's an interesting list:

This is strange because just the other day I was thinking about an old post apocalyptic film I saw when I was a kid. It was one of those classic 'lifeboat' films, where there were only 4 people left alive in New York City after a nuclear attack - a woman, an intellectual, a tough guy and a black guy. If I'm not mistaken, she ended up with the black guy. I don't really remember.

I thought that Sidney Poitier played in the film, but I checked his filmography in vain. Has anyone ever heard of this film?

Also, there was a great British TV series shown some years ago about people who survived after a plague wiped out most of humanity. It was called 'Survivors' (I think) and it was really entertaining.

I remember the 70's postapocalyptic movie "A Boy and His Dog", about a teen and his telepathic dog named Blood. A young Don Johnson was the boy and Tim McIntire voiced Blood. L.Q. Jones directed from a Harlan Ellison story.
