I've recently discovered the "Inkheart" series and am fascinated by many characters. I think I would really like to meet Dustfinger or Meggie.

Oh so did I, so did I Lynn! I am going to see if I can find the books in the library and see if I still go weak at the knees...

"Nana Mama from James Patterson's Alex Cross series." wigwambam, I have thought that same thing for years, since she first appeared as a character! I know a woman who is now 86 and going strong, the "grandmother" of 1000's of us growing up. I once told Nana Mamie, she is this woman in a book and her reply was, "So where's all the money I should be getting?!" Priceless! Sandy

It would be great to spend an afternoon with Nana Mama in her kitchen preparing a meal. Even better - sitting down to eat it afterwards.

I would have loved to meet Arthur Upfield's character Bony (aka Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte) Like others, I also would love to meet Miss Marple - not so sure about Poirot - I think the ego might be a bit much for me; Roderick Alleyn (Ngaio Marsh) would be interesting to meet, and finally the Billabong clan (created by Mary Grant Bruce).

This is going to sound really immature and teeny but I'd like to meet Edward Cullen.
On another note I'd like to meet anyone from Harry Potter and LOTR. I'd like to meet Prince Caspian and generally anyone from Anne Rice.

I wish I knew Spencer and Hawk from the Robert B. Parker stories. I also wish I knew Fearless Jones and Easy Rawlins from the Walter Mosley books.

I would love to meet the March sisters from Little Women. I could use some advice from Jo now and again, since she and I seem to be somewhat alike. I would also enjoy knowing Melanie Hamilton from Gone With the Wind. If she could love a hag like Scarlett unconditionally, she would no doubt think of me- an average person- as a card carrying saint. Everybody needs a friend like that.

There are probably several dozen, if not hundreds of characters I'd love to meet, but the ones I'd most love to know are Mike Callahan from Spider Robinsons "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon" and his wife Lady Sally from "Lady Slings the Booze." They would be great fun to have over for dinner or drinks.
Other favorites would be Michael Valentine Smith from Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" and Rita Mae Brown's charecters in "Six of One." Especially the Hunsenmeir sisters and Celeste Chalfonte. Those three are perhaps the most delightful charaters I've ever seen in print.
Finally (so hard to narrow it down) I'd have to say Reginald from a series of short stories by Saki (H.H. Munro). If you've never read these stories, you're in for a treat. They are hilarious and filled with the most delightful quips. My favorite being "She was a good cook, as far as cooks go, and as far as cooks go, she went."

Questions like this always drive me crazy. Whenever I come up with an answer, I suddenly think of two or three more possibilities, and I end by being unable to settle on any one. It's like being asked, "What's your favorite painting?" I could spend days trying to pin down an answer to that one.
However, I'll make a stab at it. From children's books, I think I'd to meet Claudia Kincaid from "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" and Nona Fell from Rumer Godden's "Miss Happiness and Miss Flower" and "Little Plum". I was once told by a friend that he'd never run into a fictional character who reminded him of me as much as Claudia did.
Someone mentioned Thomas Lynley from Elizabeth George's mystery series, but I think I'd prefer to kick back in a pub with Lynley's sidekick, Barbara Havers, a fabulous character in her own right. And I'd give a lot to meet Marcus Didius Falco from the Lindsey Davis series.
Serious literature? Oh, dear. I can think of Daniel Deronda, Colonel Brandon, Guy Perrin (from "The Raj Quartet"), Stephen Dedalus, Don Fabrizio, the Prince of Salina, and his nephew Tancredi (from "The Leopard"), Brother William of Baskerville ("The Name of the Rose") ....

I so agree with you Nemesis about the crew from the Belgariad/Mallorean series. Pug & Tomas from Raymond Feist's Riftwar series would also be interesting to meet. Any character from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar world would be absolutely intriguing.

Think of me in a strange way, but of all the characters in all of the books in the world, I would love to know: (Half of you probably wont know what I'm talking about, but for the people who do),
Jaypaw, Warriors: Power of Three.
Tigerstar: Warriors.
Cinderpelt: Warriors, Warriors: New Prophecy.

Myron Bolitar - Harlen Coben's sarcastic NBA failure (due to knee injury) turned sports agent/sleuth.
McMurphy - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Garp
Captains Call and McCrae from Lonesome Dove. --and Clara Allen.
Dave Robicheaux and Cletus Purcell - James Lee Burke's brilliant duo.
It just occurred to me I could go on with this theme for quite awhile. I read so many books with recurring characters and love each visit with them.
