Totally agree -- Precious Ramotswe!

Also Hillerman's Jim Chee, Rankin's Inspector Rebus and PD James' Adam Dalgleish

I would have to say Edward (Twilight), Dracula, Louis, Armand, and Lestat (Interview with a Vampire). What can I say, I have a thing for vampires. lol I would also love to meet Mother Abigail from The Stand.

Honestly, for the most part the most interesting literary characters are not people I would actually like to meet - they would be uncomfortable companions. I just thought of some whom I would like to spend some time with, though - Mack and the boys, from "Sweet Thursday" and "Cannery Row". I don't think I'd let them know where the key to my house was, though....

Eve and Rourke (with Peabody, Dr Mira, Mavis, Leonardo, Crack - all the crew) from JD Robb's (Nora Roberts) Eve Dallas series.

Sparhawk and Ehlana from The Elenium/Tamuli by David Eddings

Elizabeth Bennett from Pride & Prejudice.

I said this before on here somewhere: I think it would be great to meet MR Bennett. Such a funny, wise and patient man. One of my favourite characters in literature.

This might sound a bit sick...

but I would like to meet Dracula.

I am curious about what made him tick. I would ask him why he was so bloodthirsty. And where did he get his castle from? Maybe he was a canny real estate agent before becoming vamprirised.

It would be good to meet those other characters in Stoker's novel as well. Their names elude me. But that lawyer who hunted down Dracula - a brave feat I say and worthy of an interview.

I would love to know Stu Redman from Stephen King's book The Stand. He always struck me as an honest person, caring. Plus I adore SK.

I posted almost a year ago and somehow managed to omit the fictitious character I admire most in all of literature. So now I make amends by saying I'd love to sit down to a dinner of fried chicken, collard greens and biscuits with Mr. Atticus Finch of Maycombe County, Alabama and his two precocious children, Jem and Scout.

Fred and George from the "Harry Potter" books. Okay, and Harry too in book 5-ish so I could just give him a hug and tell him to "hang on because I swear, it gets better, little buddy". Poor little guy... I swear, if people just gave him a bit more love, his life would have been a little bit less stressful...

Oh, and Snape too, so I can kick his... okay, wait. I would just nicely tell him to not be so mean, because he has a wand and I don't.

And the Dursley's, so I can kick them. Not that I'm violent.

Let's see... I wish I could go back in time to when I was about eleven, and meet all the girls from the American Girl series. I wanted to meet them so bad... I knew they weren't real, but that didn't stop me from wishing.

Scarlett O'Hara to first tell her she is a important person in the south now, and then yell at her for being such a jerk, for lack of another G-rated word.

And I'll stop now, for fear that people here will think I truly am loud and violent. But honestly, too many characters deserve a good kicking

I'd love to have a bit of a pub crawl round Ankh-Morpork with Sam Vimes and then be woken up with a hangover-busting breakfast from Sybil...

Right, having (now!) read through the whole thread:

Jack Reacher (for um...personal reasons!)
Steve Carella before he fell for Teddy
Teddy Lawrence just after Jo March had turned him down.
Rhett Butler.
*Most* Dick Francis heroes (with Steven Scott, James Tyrone, Tony Beach, Alexander Kinloch, Lee Morris and Matt Shore leading the field..)
Jo March, just after she'd turned down Teddy, to let her know Professor Bhaer was in her future.
Joanna from 'The Officers Wives' to slap her.

Actually, reading this - just transform me into Thursday Next and let me wander through my bookshelves!

I forgot to mention Reacher!?! I wonder if our reasons would be the same, Quiz_Beagle.

Hmm...Let's see..Does Manga count? If it did, I wouldn't mind meeting Eiri Yuki from the Gravitation Series, (And giving him a piece of my mind!)
Now, back to reality, I would like to meet Jacob Black (He is such a nice person!), Edward Cullen (Grr....), and Emmett Cullen (yay!).
From the Inheritance Cycle, the person I would like to meet the most would be Murtagh, Eragon's half brother. I also hope he would consider passing his archery skills on to me, as I have had zero talent since I joined the club.
From H2O:Just add water (Are there any books?) I would like to meet Zane, and put him in his place for once. (Though Rikki already does that very well herself!)
From Harry Potter, My first choice would Be Professor Severus Snape, of course, as he has been my favourite character the whole time. Dumbledore would definitely be next though...
I would also like to meet Marcus Brutus from Emperor, (wow!),
and I wouldn't mind meeting Romeo from Romeo and Juliet, even though he drives me nuts!
Ian Rider from Alex Rider series would have been cool too! (I just happen to have a strange liking towards people called Ian... I dunno why, and I have honestly never known anyone called Ian though)

I know this sounds very immature but I have been dying to meet Master Yoda from the Star Wars thing, ever since the books came out!

Oh damn, there are just too many to mention! I have no idea! I guess I would like to meet everybody from all the books I have ever read...okay, so maybe not EVERYBODY, definitely not Cluney the Scourge, but Slagar would be nice, hahaha...(Redwall)....and last of all, I would be more than honored to meet James the Vampire from Twilight....muahahah....unless you count Orochimaru, (Naruto Manga..long long time ago), who has managed to keep me interested for a long time....anyways, that's all I think!
