Currently here in NW Arkansas, it's about $2.03-05. Does anyone think it will continue to climb unchecked?

We're at roughly $2.09 in South Western Pennsylvania. I've heard recently that it may climb higher in the next few day, I really hope it doesn't. I have these visions of signing my paycheck over to the local gas station.

Prices are the highest in history, roughly $2.00 per gallon.

The national average on March 18 was a record $2.13 per gallon. Here around Dallas, it's about $1.98-$2.05. Analysts are estimating the peak to be $2.20 a gallon, but being at $2.13 before April, it needs to stop rising to stay below that.

We pay at least €1.30 per liter, which is $6.40 per gallon. So I guess you guys in the US are lucky to pay only a third of that!

Here in Colorado Springs, regular unleaded is about $2.09 per gallon, and I saw just this morning, premium unleaded at $2.41 per gallon at a station just off the main interstate highway through the city.

Someone else can do my conversion cause that is way beyond me right now but we're about about $1.10/litre for petrol and $1.17/litre for diesel.

That would be 3.20 USD per gallon for petrol and 3.41 USD per gallon for diesel. Yep, I'm bored.

About six hours ago, regular unleaded was $2.05/gallon here. Now it's up to $2.10/gallon, or more (I just filled up at $2.10 at a BP station down the street). Historically, the southern United States has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, but it seems that trend is quickly vanishing.

littlewoman, we are still cheaper than most of the country, but the gap, as you say, is shrinking. I'm still seeing a few $1.99's out there. I don't know if anyone sees it cheaper than that...except maybe in Georgia.

About $2.17 here in Northern Virginia.

A neat website is gasbuddy.com - People go in and update the website with what their local gas stations are charging so their neighbors/curious people can go and look up what prices are being charged.

I heard it would peak at around $2.50/gal and that the price of crude could go as high as $80/barrel. Glad I've got a (small) Toyota.

Well, here we're at about $2.40-$2.50/gallon. Reportedly the highest in the country.
Yep, welcome to California!
Supposedly it's got to do with the special "anti-pollution" additives that only Cal has, which doesn't allow us to import gas from other states. Personally, I smell an oil company conspiracy.
I just look for the cheapest station and grit my teeth. What else can you do?

Not exactly practical when you are going, oh, say, 10 miles with two young children.
And to answer the inevitable public transportation question...no, it doesn't run conviently around here. I can't get to anywhere I need to go at the times I need to go there.

Update for Wyoming gas price for mid-grade (87 octane): $2.20.
I put in half of a tank of gas this morning for $22.00. Time to buy a moped.

It's $2.04 here for E-10 Unleaded Ethanol gas. We only buy gas with Ethanol. It is generally the mid-octane unleaded available, but is usually cheaper than the lower-octane regular unleaded, but the cost is not the only reason we favor it. I'm not sure what diesel prices are here right now.

Since I work for a trucking company and our tariff includes a fuel surcharge item that is based on the weekly on-highway retail diesel prices, I've gotten to know the US Dept of Energy website.

Here's an interesting link showing retail gasoline price averages for the US, as well as by region and some populous states and cities. It's nice because you can see trends as well, since there is a history.

And here's one for diesel prices, though it isn't as comprehensive.

As an aside to Lothruin's post about ethanol: Ford Motor Company does not recommend using this fuel in their cars and trucks. My owner's handbook advises against it and suggests that the warranty may be voided if ethanol-laced gasoline is used. Something to do with clogging the fuel injectors and/or rotting out any fuel lines made with rubber.

I've heard similar, fjohn, and I drive a newer Ford myself. (2002) My owner's manual advises against useing METHANOL fuels and doesn't specifically mention Ethanol at all, although it DOES say that Ford Motor Company endorses using "clearner burning" fuels, which would include Ethanol. And, in fact, Ford Motor Company was, as early as 1999, offering cost-saving incentives to people who bought Ethanol fuels. That information is available on their website. I've seen quotes from Ford Motor Company Owners Guides that define "Regular Unleaded" as "These gasolines may contain oxygenates up to 10% ethanol or 15% MTBE."" Now, I can't find that quote in my Owner's Manual, but it IS a rather long document. Still, though, the Owner's Manual does NOT say that ethanol fuels should not be used, and neither does the FMC website.

And though they are usually run by pro-ethanol groups, every online reference I've seen that has any scientific data to back it up will tell you that nearly ever car manufactured after 1970 can safely use gasolines containing up to 10% ethanol. Ford Motor Company happens to be one of the companies that is pioneering autos that can use as much as 85% ethanol in their autos, with many "Fuel Flex" vehicles currently on the market.

Also, for the record, all vehicles (or at least nearly all) driven by the Lincoln Police Dept and Nebraska State Patrol are made by Ford, and ALL of them use E10 unleaded because it supports Nebraska's economy.

As I said, I've heard the bit about not using ethanol fuels because of damaging things, but I've done my research. A quick call to the FMC Customer Service line tomorrow will likely confirm my research.

Well, just like my California "buddy", Taesma, prices here in the greater Sacramento area are around $2.20/gal for regular unleaded (87 octane). It's a little cheaper than the Bay Area, but still extremely high. Isn't California wonderful???

According to the Automobile Association (January figures), the average UK fuel prices are 79.6 Pence per litre for 95 octane unleaded petrol and 84.8 Pence for diesel. This works out at over 7 US Dollars per gallon. In Britain, fuel is used to raise a chunk of the country's revenue. Around 70% of what we pay is tax.

The high price influences many people's choice of car. Most private car engines don't go higher than about 2 litres. Engines even smaller than that are possibly more the norm. Even so, fuel bought at those prices can be quite weekly outlay. Ah well ...it all helps to keep the number of cars down a bit I suppose.

Here on the south coast of England, the filling station at the local supermarket is charging 83.9p a litre for unleaded and 87.9p a litre for four-star. That works out to £3.81 and £4.00 per Imperial gallon. With the US dollar at about $1.87 to the £, that’s $5.94 and $6.22 per US gallon.
