Webroots recently published it's list of top ten spyware threats. It can be found here. I'd suggest everyone to look at it once so that you get a fair idea of the most vile form of spyware around, and can easily recognize these programs.

As far as I know, both Ad-Aware and Spybot should delete them.

Oh I recongnise about 3 of those spyware threats, from Ad-aware results. But luckily I have Ad-aware, good to know that it should get rid of these threats. Hopefully it will.

Oh yes, I have experience on some of those on the computer I had before I knew about spyware. Nasty little things those are!

Luckily I now have adaware, spybot search and destroy, and firefox.

and firefox

This seems to be one measure that makes the biggest difference. Ad-Aware - Spybot - MS Antispyware - F-Prot - Security Task Manager never find anything on their scans. Of course, there's always the possibility that there are nasties in the system and none of the security programs I have are finding them.

Ad-Aware broke my computer!! After I installed it the next time I turned on my computer clicking on My Computer & Internet Explorer caused my computer to crash It worked again after I uninstalled Ad-Aware but after that I kept getting pop-ups (apparantly caused by Spy-ware). I've since tried 2 other spy ware removers (spy-bot and TZ Spyware & Adware killer) and eventually had to resort to having a friend (who knows about computers) to have a look at it.

It may be that you had spyware already on the computer when you tried to install adaware. Some forms of spyware don't take kindly to people installing programs that could possibly remove them.

That sounds like the most likely possiblity. Adaware doesn't ruin computers. It sounds like you should really look into firefox. It is a different world. My computer was so crippled before I installed it I had to use the control panal to download it because IE wouldn't boot at all. The control panal would shut down too, but I was able to get to the mozilla website first. Something had to change, and that was just the change my computer needed.

I have firefox now... and have had since my computer first broke.

Another thing about Ad-Aware... after I started getting pop ups I was told to reinstall it, which my housemate duly did for me. When he ran it it found loads of spyware, then came up with a message saying it was deleting it but after it had finished it said that 0 files had been removed.

Anyway, my computer is now working again and has yet another spyware remover on it: Spyware Doctor this time. And my boyfriend has banned me from using Internet Explorer ever again... unless I really have to.
