I'm running a survey to find the worst song in the world, as part of an ongoing study of people and music. If you've got a song that you really, really despise, then please tell me--and the world--about it. The survey is available at: http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/music/It just takes a few minutes to describe which song you hate, and why--and think how much better you'll feel once you've vented! Remember that the more votes that are submitted, the better the understanding that can be gained about what makes a song truly loathsome. Do it for science! Once you've submitted a vote, then you can see other submissions; be careful, though, it's hard to get some of these vile songs out of your head! Some songs I'd nominate for the worst:
Soapy songs such as Charlene's "Never Been To Me" and Maureen McGovern's "Torn Between Two Lovers" and that vapid Bobby Goldsboro hit "Honey" (EECCHH!) Never really liked "MacArthur Park" either. And while others may protest I'm not crazy about Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"!

Some of the worst songs I can think of are "Yummy Yummy Yummy I've got Love in My Tummy", anything by the Bay City Rollers and most rap songs.

You bet, Dennis. All of those sixties 'sugary' songs are are unredeemable! Some later, then more current atrociousness includes :
- Achy Breaky Heart
-Redneck Woman
-Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
-Like A Virgin
-Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys
-Ready To Run
But that just got my engine warmed up. I promise not to burden you with the bulk of it! 
I also agree with that most rap is incredibly base, offensive and [downright dangerous for women]
I see that the survey you provided a link to was originally the brainchild of my personal columnist hero, Dave Barry. Yay!

Well I'll certainly protest about Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' which I think is just brilliant, for the music, the song and the singing. I also quite like Charlene's 'Never been to me', which has, I think, very moving and thought provoking lyrics.

I'm a big Queen fan but I don't like "Bohemian Rhapsody" either! The lyrics are absolute rubbish and the music is only passable.

What was that Rod Stewart song where he rhymed, or attempted to, "physical" and "lyrical"? Oh, it drove me to the edge hearing it! And there was this other odd lyric in a song. Something about a 'bustle in your hedgerow'. That song was pretty good but I never got that part of it. Lyrics make me an even bigger looney tune sometimes! And I'd forgotten about that "Never Been To Me". Dreadful, at least I thought!

Oh yes, mothergoose. How could I have forgotten Having My Baby and Don't Get Hooked On Me? I think the Rod Stewart chestnut gats mentioned is You're In My Heart . Geeesh. Torn Between Two Lovers is pretty creepy, too.

You're probably thinking of "You're in my Heart." I love Rod Stewart, really I do, but some of his lyrics are a tad off.
Personally, I have to go with "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. My disdain for that song is legendary. Oh, and "Muskrat Love", I can't hear that song without experiencing pain.

I think that that line is from Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. One of my favourite songs of all time.

"Auld Lang Syne" Is it any wonder I hate New Years Eve? Depressing lyrics coupled with depressing music.
Personally I don't really dislike very many songs as much as I tire of hearing them over-played on the radio. But without a radio in the workplace now,
I've begun to enjoy some of those songs again.

I can't stand "1,2, Step" by Ciara and Missy Elliot. Its is pointless, repetative, and WAY too catchy. and it doesn't help that I HATE hip-hop, and rap.

It gave me enormous pleasure voting Mariah Carey's ghastly rendition of "Without You" as the worst song ever. I have to say that I agree with ClaraSue regarding that Minnie Ripperton song too. Must be to do with the screeching, I think. Will we get to hear the final results of this survey in the future?

I hate that Kylie Minogue song... can't Get You Out of My Head. And Jennifer Lopez - Jenny From the Block. oh, and all the rediculous rap songs that are around at the moment  Oooh, there are so many!
