I am trying to figure out what city in Asia is the only city in "human history" to change its name and increase population? Any help is so much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

It certainly sounds as if it is a strange one as many cities have changed names and surely most cities have increased in population.

Nala..

That has to be a trick question.. that would describe almost every city in the world!

Do you have any more info?

Very tricky, indeed, especially as it doesn't say whether the change in name is in the local language or the English version. There also seems to be a curious assumption that changing the name of a city almost invariably leads to decline - which simply isn't the case. It sounds to me like one of these cases where you're being asked to mind-read.

Constantinople changed to Istanbul, population increased by immigration. Half of the city is in Europe and half in Asia.

How about Beijing, formerly referred to Peking?

Or Ho Chi Minh City formerly Saigon? The list is endless, it's probably a case of pulling out the atlas.

Mumbai, which was formerly "Bombay". Nobody can argue against the fact that its population has been increasing...

Edo, now known as Tokyo, is another contender.

The only suggestion I can think of is to look at cities that have changed their names and enlarged their area at the same time, thus increasing population immediately.
