High point - we've had some rain! A very large part of Australia is in drought at the moment. People who used to whinge that their footy game might get cancelled due to rain don't seem to mind at all. My dog Fidget has seen little rain in her young life, so has been out in it, smells like a wet blanket, but no-one cares.

Low point - hubby has had some worrying medical test results. He's a dreadful patient at the best of times and won't do the necessary things for his health (like stopping the stress....)

Scottie, I will keep my fingers crossed for your hubby - it is the families who need all the support they can get at such times.

Rain...what's rain? I don't see that much in the summertime, and if this summer is anything like 2000, I won't see it for 84 days. There are times where we go an entire July (or August (or both)) without rain.

High point: got to spend some time with my girlfriend, as I have been working a lot lately.

Edit to add: That 84 day string is no exaggeration! It reached 111°F (44°C) on September 4, 2000...day 65 of 84, for the 5th highest reading in Dallas in history.

Gosh, 84 days! We had rain the same weekend Scottie talked about (Canberra really copped it, Scottie!) and before that it was 127 days since our last rain and that was very early February and was only 12 points (a small shower, enough to wet the concrete) - before that it was September last year. And 44* would have been a cooler day over the summer ....

Will be thinking of you, Sue, but remember it's only fashionable for the bride to be late ... not the brides mother!

I know how you suffered with the drought the other year Copago, sheep farming without rain, and therefore without grass and drinking water for the sheep, must be sheer hell.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you get a good soaking soon.

Quite a good day so far, telephone call from man in our Health and Social Services Department who is trying to sort out my huge list of expenses for travel expenses, he is going to sort out the bill I received for Ł155.80 to pay for the ambulance to the airport in April. Nice man.

My high of the week was the return of my best friend and his family to this country for the first time since they moved to Florida in Jan. 2002. They spent a few days with me here, but the low of course was yesterday when they flew back after ten days. After my friends had children they were the only family to include me as well, and I'd seen him regularly for most of the previous 30 years until he left. I have no idea if they'll ever live here again, and it was a great milestone to be able to see them this time after so long.

Recent high points. Went to see our family in Germany. Our 2 year old grandaughter was too young to remember me from the last visit and cried when I sat her on my knee. However, when we left, she gave me the hugest of hugs. I took our grandson playing in the woods. Our son came along too. we rolled logs down a hill and walked along fallen tree trunks and did other play things that I used to do when our children were young.

Low point. I miss them now we are home. I wish they lived in England.

It's been ages since I've been on here! I've been so busy.
Anyway, the high of my week so far is that I have a job interview tomorrow.

Monday will either be a very good day or a very bad day... my university results are released on that day. Nervous doesn't even begin to cover how I feel!

High point- it's my birthday this Saturday, and my new sled should be arriving soon

Low point- two of my dogs got in a fight (my female is in heat and my male managed to break a snap that started to wear down, and tried to mount her. She got angry, and attacked him). My male had to get his ear sewed up, and he has to wear a cone now.

Beee, I'm wth ya buddy! You'll be all good. And 4dogpack - dogs DO get all out of control, don't they? I hate it when they bite. It's just an animal reaction, of course. Beasts or blessings? Who really knows?

High point of today? Getting my Gold Membership back. Working on a new quiz (that all will hate lol). Hearing Kate's voice - even though I didn't make it to the phone on time. Hearing from my buddy Leau, too. Lot of good stuff on Tuesday. Gats loves a good day.

No real low point. Flies are invading my house, maybe that's one. I've been swatting wildly for the whole day. Got a household Fly cemetery at work here...

All seems normal (trust me, that doesn't happen too often)

Thanks Sue & gatsby.

Well, I didn't get the job. That was the low point of the day.

A high point is that the sun came out in the afternoon after a rainy start to the day. Now I'm just praying for the sun to shine on saturday for my sister's wedding!

Hi everyone,

I still don't have a computer at home, so I'm not here very much. Just wanted to stop by.

My low today is not getting an important letter written for fin. aid at school. I have to apply for an extention...this only determines if I get my loans or not! You'd think I'd get right on it!

My high is my flowers. I planted some Zinnia's from seed. I have three plants. One tiny one (2 inches), one medium one (3 inches) and a big one (3 1/2 inches!). I had more plants but they wilted. :-( But I didn't have a big enough container for them anyway. They are in a window box in my living room and I am using a grow lamp on them. I really, really hope these grow and flower! They are kind wilty...the little one wilted almost to the dirt but when I watered it, it perked up!

I'm thinking of calling my flowers, Papa plant, mama plant and baby plant...like the Three bears...because of their sizes! LoL What do you think??

Silly Joy!
P.S...Bee, sorry about your interview. You'll get the next one!

High point - hubby's recent test was clear - it had been one of those dratted false readings in the first place!

Low point last weekend - oven door fell off in middle of baking session for school art show! Now it's a sudden cold snap and everything I plan to cook requires use of oven! Can't make my favourite winter cassoulet recipe! The worst thing about it is that I really like my oven. It's 20 years old, so it's a decent size. All the new ones have bells and whistles, but can barely fit one casserole dish, let alone 2! Whose idea was it to downsize the whole new generation of wall-ovens and take out the separate griller whilst at it?

Low point today - finding out that I can't get a new hinge for the above oven. Will I have to get a new one for want of a rivet on a hinge?

High point - finding a metalwork company who might be able to make a new hinge.

High point - finding an oven that is a decent size and will fit into the space.
Low point - the price!

Scottie

After moaning about the cold weather my high point is we've had a whole week of 80c plus temperatures, so even if it starts snowing tomorrow at least we've had one week minimum of a proper summer for a change. It isn't always like that!

Well, my high point is that I finally managed to get onto my university website (had to get my dad's girlfriend to change her security settings before it would allow me to get on). Now, officially my results aren't announced until Monday so this is subject to approval by the exam board. But I can't see my result changing too much.. so it looks like I've got my 2:1. According to the website I got 63.8. And the best part... the real high point! I got 77 for my dissertation. Yesssssssss!

Congratulations, beee!

And, Scottie, I'm glad to hear your worries were unfounded. In the UK nowadays, we get all sorts of statistics about the "performance" of our health service, but we never get any indication of how reliable our doctors' diagnoses are likely to be. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not.

Since I don't share satguru's love of hot weather, the nicest thing that I've seen and heard for several days is the rain that's beating against my windows as I type this, and the thunder rolling away in the background. For Sunday, the forecast here is a maximum of 20°C and a breeze from the east: it sounds wonderful.

Yes, well done Beee, I was going to wait till it was official but I think you know your own uni system better than we do!

It was relatively freezing yesterday Tom, but today is more how I like it. I seem to need more warmth from the outside than the inside as time passes...

RAIN. It has been raining here in Sydney for a couple of days now, and more is expected this week. My garden is finally getting a decent amount of water.

We are at level three water restrictions and yesterdays rain also gave me the chance to wash my car without looking like a dill filling up buckets then pouring the water over the car.

Quote:

Mandatory Water Restrictions
Level 3 mandatory water restrictions apply across Sydney, Illawarra and the Blue Mountains from 1 June 2005.
From 1 July 2005 a $220 fine will apply for all breaches of Level 3 restrictions by residential customers. The Water Restrictions Patrol will be carrying out random audits to ensure compliance with the new exemption conditions.
To further encourage compliance with the restrictions, businesses will face a fine of $550 for each breach. Fines for water theft will rise to $2,200.
The new restrictions came into force on 1 June 2005. However, the new elements of Level 3 restrictions will not be enforced with fines until 1 July 2005.

The restrictions apply to all Sydney Water customers including residents, businesses, local councils and government agencies.
The Level 3 restrictions are:

* Hand-held hosing of lawns and gardens and drip irrigation is now allowed only on Wednesdays and Sundays before 10 am and after 4 pm
* No other watering systems or sprinklers are to be used at any time
* A permit from Sydney Water is required to fill new or renovated pools bigger than 10,000 litres
* No hosing of hard surfaces including vehicles at any time
* No hoses or taps to be left running unattended, except when filling pools or containers
* Fire hoses must only be used for fire fighting purposes – not for cleaning.

From here.

I hope you get some serious rain Copago.

Of course I did Sue. Who would want to be seen filling and throwing buckets of water like the sorcerers apprentice?
My vehicle wasn`t washed for about 4 months before the latest washing and I was getting really annoyed. We are taking water restrictions seriously here, though not everyone, there are still people that don`t know how to sweep and use the hose instead.
I have seen a couple of my neighbors washing their cars in the rain and one of them was singing as well. Now that is strange.

Edited to add that the high of my day was being shown my neighbors new rainwater tank. It`s a beaut and holds 4000 litres. He is diverting the water from his roof to the tank and thinking about installing an electric pump so he can have enough pressure to wash his car! I really want one myself but would prefer it to be underground, the fact that our house is sitting right on sandstone is the only reason I haven`t got a tank of my own yet.
