Thumbs up, Sue! I just knew you'd be OK. Not sure how I knew it, but I did somehow.

Definite low: Spotting a flea on my pillow, trying to catch it and missing! Blasted cat. Now I have to strip my bed in the hopes of catching it before it lays eggs - a bedroom full of fleas I can live without. High: Chatting with the rather dishy window cleaner! Being at home all day has its compensations. Next week I have the boiler maintenance man - can life get more exciting?

Hmm, the gardener is Portuguese and no speaka da Engleesh. The car isn't due a service for 11,870 miles, or eleven months whichever comes first - I have driven it about 100 miles in a couple of weeks which is about the same as I drove the old one between 11th March and 28th June!
Still you have sowed seeds in my mind... Time to call a carpenter to fix that sticking front door before winter comes!

faulty power point, cracked window, water in cellar, does the vet do house calls? (dont want that flea problem getting out of control!), phone not working, a new gardener? (although if he speaks English or not shouldn't matter so long as he takes his shirt off to dig the garden bed up ... if you run out of ideas just yell out

Dare I interject a serious note here, or will I be booed? My father used to run a pest control company, and so I know a thing or two about fleas. They usually lay their eggs in carpet, close to baseboards, and eggs take about 10 days to 2 weeks to hatch (if memory serves). The secret is to turn your cat into birth control for the fleas - honest. Fleas need animal blood in order to reproduce. There are tons of products available at your vets that are like birth control, in that the fleas can bite your cat, but not be able to reproduce off of him (her). They will live out their normal life cycle, and die without giving you an infestation. It's much less intrusive than spraying your house (since you have to use a residual), and less objectionable than having to give the cat a bath! I have some oil that I rub at the back of my cat's neck once a month, and my dog wears a speacial collar. It works!
Low point of my day - my baby (he's 14) registers for high school today...sniff!

You have my total comiseration, Skunkee. It's hard when they get older and contantly seem to be some place more fascinating than home. Right now my thirteen year old is always at band practice, play rehearsal or with her buds. But - that's natural, I suppose. And I must admit, the older my children are, the more time I have to do what I need to do. [I do manage a little 'mom' type fun now and then, though.]

Nobody boos anyone in here, skunkee. Don't fret about that. Low point so far, I think: How can anyone be this tired? Especially after doing nothing at all! I would have never thought it possible a few years ago. You get tired when you work hard. I now get tired when I try to sit up straight - and I find it puzzling. There is a high point, though. I have to get down those basement steps today [and I swear I'll do it without rolling down them this time]. Why the big deal? There's a box down there I need. This adventure, of course, will take me three careful hours. Used to take two minutes. No justice once again. As for the fleas. Yikes, I had a MAJOR infestation a couple of years ago. The little varmints went after me and not my cats (I couldn't find a flea collar big enough to fit me *smiles*). They DID eventually die out, though. I still itch thinking about the whole ordeal. Goodness, it was like a war there for a while. Never met a flea I couldn't best, however .

I squirted the 'birth control' onto the back of his neck this morning, too late to stop that one getting upstairs in my bedroom! I have had some fleas in the bathroom where I take off my clothes, I don't know how that one got in my bed though.
Fourteen year old boy, yuck, been there have the t-shirt! Good luck.
High point. Went to the hospital for an ECG and as it only took a few minutes I had more than half an hour left on my parking card so I popped up to Maternity to see if my colleague was about as she has a premature baby which she visits every day. She was there as a 'patient' as the baby might come home tomorrow so she needs to be with him 24 hours a day for a few days. He is SO cute, he now weighs more than 4 pounds, (2 kilos). Pity they have to grow up.

Gatsby are you feeling the effects of the air pressure from Katrina? I know that even up here in Canada, my arthritis is reacting. We're supoosed to get a bit of a storm tonight, courtesy of Katrina.
Wow, my heart really breaks for parents of preemies. My daughter and son were 2 days and 3 days early, respectively. They were also 8 lbs 5 oz and 10 lbs 5 oz, respectively, so I can't imagine having one that little. (We used to joke that Connor was switched at birth with a 3 month old.) He was born with fluid in his lungs, so he has to spend his first 24 hours in the neo-natel intensive care unit. I'd go in to feed him, and it broke my heart to see this monster baby, who barely fit in the incubator, beside a baby who wasn't even 2 pounds. That's when I stopped feeling sorry for myself that I couldn't have him in my room. He's now 14 years old, 5' 11", and is the one who registered for high school this morning.
High point of the day - I just had lunch with a dear friend who I haven't seen in months. It was really nice.

Here's my high/low point of yesterday (aside from getting a glimpse of Conor - what a cool looking guy):
They're both the same, the highs and lows. My mind got all made up and I went out to the garage. I started the car and shut the doors - for two hours I sat waiting. And all this weird stuff happened. Voices (and I know it sounds nuts, so don't worry about that). I should have been dead and done with - but here I am. What is our purpose, you know? Apparently I have one for sticking around (and I don't get it) but the whole afternoon scared me all around. It frightened me about the future, about the past, about my worth on this Earth - about everything. Rejected from Heaven. Imagine it! I have tried so hard (it is REALLY hard to cripple up every new day); at least to me - what is happening to me? Dumb question, I reckon. To actually be out there sucking in an exhaust pipe seems so odd and the residuals were even odder. Just babbling mostly now. I guess my high point of the day is coming to fully understand the high road. The low one looks inevitable.
*How's that for serious?* Don't worry about it, though. My legs and arms will likely work better today. Let's just hope the Police don't come or anything. That sure wouldn't help.
It's true, for the record. When the going gets tough the tough get going. Too bad there isn't an ounce of toughness in me now. And before anyone gets pretty about not being able to function right, think about it better.
