Today, I'm doing a little dance. My best friend, who moved to California last year to pursue her acting career and so far has only managed to appear in an Australian magazine (Cleo) article about how tough it is to make it in Hollywood, has just had her first little triumph. I sat thought the debut of Toby Keith's new video just to see her beautiful face on the screen for three seconds. (And I can't stand Toby Keith, so that's saying something!)

I'm half a country away from my friend, and I'd like nothing better than to go out and have a drink with her to celebrate, but instead I must celebrate here, quietly, but it's no less sweet.

I know the rest of you have done this too; celebrated on someone else's behalf...

I sure have! In the late 1980's, my friend John moved from the Chicago area to Los Angeles to do stand up comedy for a while, but really planned to try and break into an acting career, too.

I watched him traipse from bit part to walk on roll for years, almost starving in the meantime. {There's nothing like seeing your 6 ft 4 buddy in a Mr. Waffle suit and managing to keep a straight face - nodding casually as he speaks, as if this is just another part of your ordinary day}

Then the day came when one of John's WB buddies introduced him to Steven Spielberg. It was all fast track from there -I think his first emmy was for an episode of Pinky And the Brain. When I saw him and his writing partners bound up on stage it was almost more than I could handle. Few people knew how hard his struggle had been. His scrappy little Irish mother missed seeing that success by only a few years...how proud she would've been to be there that night!

This is an old one, but I'm going to bring it back up today. Kstew, I never responded about how cool that is! Pinky and the Brain is so cool! Yay!

I'm going to add another little yay to my friend, who made it onto the IMdB with her first credited roll. I'm so proud of her. It's just an indy short, but I know she's headed for bigger and better things. I'm just so proud.
