When there is an irritating (OK, more than normally iritating) advert it will discourage me from purchasing - they do themselves no favours.

We are not alone - There is this article about it from News.scotsman.com and this one from the BBC.
The BBC website refers to the Insanity Test which we used to link to from the Lounge - but that was very funny as it was the racing car, this crazy frog thing is just too much.

It MUST be costing them a bundle then, because it is played over here as well. However, I've only seen it a couple of times, not as much as you two apparently.

There was one that had two blokes in Sumo suits and it was the same. I tend to agree with you, Sue - I don't buy things from ads that annoy me but with these ringtone ads aren't really aimed at our age groups . You hear that some kids spend outrageous amounts on them.

I haven't seen the crazy frog commercials, that I know of, but I feel very much the same about ads that bug me. I have yet to buy anything from Old Navy. I've never even entered a store. Every Old Navy ad I've ever seen irritates me so badly I simply refuse to shop there. Once, when I was pregnant and looking for overalls to wear until I was big enough for maternity clothes, I called Old Navy, having been told they'd had some a few weeks back. The hold "music" was specially made advertising in the same vein as the tv ads, and by the time someone actually got on the phone for me to ask my question, I simply told her the advertising was so horrible I no longer needed her services. I'd find my overalls elsewhere.

Geico commercials are the worst in my opinion. They will have something like "the bridge is out ahead but I have good news!" "I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!" I despise their commercials, excluding the ones with the gecko on them.

Apparently £7m this month alone for advertising, that is obscene.

There is a saying in Hollywood that says "there is no such thing as bad publicity." You may hate their commercials but they've got you talking about it and although I've never even heard of Crazy Frog you've piqued my interest. Advertising dollars well spent, I'm sure.

Sue, what is Crazy Frog? I've never heard of it. Maybe people in the South Central US don't have the product available, as I have not seen it.

You can hear it here - now I love the voice part, in fact when we had it as the Insanity Test I had it listed as my favourite thread, it is the annoying music that accompanies it.

Complaints are now being made about the company selling the ringtone, they have been sending reverse charge texts to people who signed up for the ringtone. That will teach people not to subscribe to the irritating noise! BBC website story

I got a ringtone from this company, and then they took £4 off me by texting me messages I can't even read, I think they are too complicated for my phone cos it's too old to receive them properly. My own fault for being silly enough to do it in the first place, but I've learnt my lesson. I really don't like that dancing teddy bear one either.

I hope you have taken precautions to stop further text messages from them or £4 will be just the start.
To stop reverse-charge texts to your mobile, text STOP or STOP ALL to the five-figure number they are being sent from. The number should start with an 8.

Stop me before I kill again. I swear, the person who made that ringtone must be stopped. It's painful.
Just to show how dull I am, my ringtone is a little polyphonic version of Tasmin Archer's 'Sleeping Satellite'. *sigh*

Mine is one of the tones which came with the phone, not a tune of any kind. Not that my phone is used very often and is normally switched off.

It must be the most annoying advert ever created! I cannot think of one I hated more. AND...it beat Coldplay to number one! Who buys this thing? If anyone I know has bought this thing I will disown them!!!

How crazy is this? Were there fads like this in the 1960's? Or have the cell phones really fried peoples' brains? I can't even think of something comparable from my childhood in the 1980's. (Of course, I was into CHILD fads back then, like plastic charm necklaces, so maybe I wouldn't know.)
