Probably many of of you in the US and Britain have seen video of the NY Stock Exchange. What are the people called who stand down on the trading floor and send hand signals all day? I can't seem to find any reference to it on the net.

They are stock traders. They buy a 'seat' on the exchange that entitles them to shout and wave their hands. What they are actually doing is selling and buying stock for their clients.

I don't know why, but I always assumed those on the floor were signaling to a broker, rather than being the broker!
