He was 85 years old and had Alzheimer's. Besides being well-known for Star Trek, he was also a member of the Canadian forces on D-Day that landed on Juno beach.

Yes, Littlewoman -Scotty was also my favorite character of the original Trek. I loved his commonsense approach to engineering the Enterprise...and his ability to stand up to [ and sometimes even overide] the pretty-taken -with -himself Captain Kirk!

I just read on cnn.com that, according to Doohan's wishes, he was cremated and part of his ashes will be blasted into outer space on a rocket launched later this year. Befitting.

He was such a good Scotty. I liked him as he wasn't as full of himself as a certain Captain was. I could see the joy on his face when he greeted fans or when he was interviewed. He shall be missed. I like that his wishes will be honored. It makes sense.
