Today I saw one of the looniest TV ads in a while! Pepsi ran this ad where a guy with a can of Pepsi was in this Japanese food place and he was eyeing two whole fried chickens and when he tried to decide which one to get, the chickens, via some CGI effects, became sumo wrestlers and started battling in the display case til one threw the other through the glass! Catch it if you can, it's a howl!

I've seen it. Took me a while to realize it was an ad for Pepsi! You can bet I wouldn't have picked either one of those possessed chickens though!!! LOL

What do Sumo wrestlers have to do with a soft drink? The 'moral' of this story is to beat your competitor(s). Then Pepsi is shown as the champion.

It is a rather innovative advertising technique but Pepsi is making a big mistake. They assume that the audience will sit and 'figure out' the commercial, be pleased with Pepsi's creativity and buy the product.

When it's commercial time on TV, most people don't try to figure out commercials. If they're like me, they switch to coma mode until programming resumes; they visit the bathroom and/or the kitchen.

Ten minutes of every thirty is taken up by commercials. If I wanted to play guessing games, I'd watch Jeopardy. If I wanted to see the latest advertising approaches, I'd look on the internet. I don't even want to watch most of the programs on today much less the commercials.

I thought most people switched to "coma" mode when the program came on, especially with "reality" television. Not much to expand your mind these days.
