A few years back, I was most fascinated by the country of Nauru, a once prosperous country with plenty of Phosphate to be mined. Over mining in the country has ultimately put the country in the peculiar position of possible extinction (so to speak). With little other forms of an economy, what will happen with this nation? Will it become an extinct entity in 20 years time? What are your opinions on this matter? Are there any other nations in the world that you feel may become extinct entities in the near future?

It seems to many tiny Pacific nations haved turned to tourism, perhaps that could be a way to go but all that bird sh ... ahh I mean phosphate ... might be a bit smelly?

Urgh, the sad fact is that I'm still very fasicnated by the country of Nauru. From the collecting point of view, they could possibly manage to sustain themselves by producing silver bullion soin issues and stamps, because ultimately, they are very collectible from such a country as Nauru. It's a weird situation. There has been a map produced lately to show how the phosphate mining has left the island - it's now a thin rim of green land with a big white rock patch in the middle. The island is now unusable.
