Ours was a bit different--we had some bagpipe music followed by some African flute, to represent (parts of) our cultures.
Our "first dance" song was Al Green, Let's Stay Together. Somewhat more traditonal.

We had a very non-traditional wedding. We got married out in the state park. They had this great little amphitheatre, seating for about 70 people. My flower girls flitted in to the opening of the overture to Midsummer Night's Dream. My hubby's brother was killed in a car accident a few months before the wedding, and he didn't want anyone else as his best man... so... we used his grandmother's ficus, which his dad and cousin carried in to the song "Better Man" by Pearl Jam. It was very fitting, and rather moving. Hubby walked in to "Fever" as sung by The Bobs. I walked in to a piece that I sang in college. I had kept a recording of it (which I really need to find, by god..) and it was really a beautiful song. And I'm having a brain fart at the moment, so I'll have to get back to you on what it was called.. something like "You bring me peace." I'll think of it in the middle of the night, and wake from a sound sleep and scare the dog by shouting it out *giggle*

I have absolutely no idea what I walked down the aisle to - something traditional I think. I had the stomach flu that day, and I was totally focused on not embarrassing myself in front of everyone. I know that my brother-in-law sang 'Longer Than', by Dan Fogleburg I believe) for us in the church, but we were already married by that point.
The worst part of having the flu was the fact that everyone assumed that it was nerves...until they caught it from me. Kiss the bride took on a sinister new meaning that day! Fortunately one of my guests was a doctor and was able to give me a shot of gravol - after the third time I'd lost my cookies.

My wife walked down the aisle to the traditional march played on a violin. For our first dance we danced to "Angel" by Dave Matthews Band.

My wife walked down the aisle to the traditional wedding march. Our song for our first dance was. " Make it with you " by Bread.

My walk down the aisle was accompanied by Pachelbel's Canon. During the ceremony, played as an interlude before the rings, we played Jethro Tull's "Won'dring Aloud". It's a lovely little song. I think our first dance was "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole. (But not the Natalie Cole duet version.) Ours wasn't exactly a traditional wedding, and we didn't have exactly traditional tastes, but I just happen to love Pachelbel's Canon and it just happens to be a popular choice for weddings. Oh well.

We didn't have music because we had an outdoor wedding.
One of the "unusual" choices for wedding music was at the wedding of some friends in California. They played "Wasted on the Way". It always amused me because if you look at the entire lyrics, it is quite appropriate for a wedding. But "wasted" has another meaning and knowing the groom's drug problem, I always thought it was ironic as he often was "wasted on the way".

Skunkee, I can relate a bit to that! When my youngest sister got married, I was 12 weeks pregnant and suffering miserable bouts of morning sickness. I remember standing up front (as a bridesmaid) and eyeing a near-by wastebasket thinking I may just have to make use of it. Thankfully I got through the ceremony without embarrassing anyone!
What a situation for you to be in...as the bride!!! Poor thing.

Thanks for the sympathy - I know what you were going through too. The frustrating part of it is that my family is totally insane, and I still (20 years later) have people telling me that they've never had so much fun at a wedding...sigh! Oh well, after the shot of gravol I did get to enjoy some of it.

No aisle, no music, no guests. It was a JP affair, over in five minutes with little fanfare. I'm planning a handfasting at the moment and I'm letting him choose the songs. I know what he wants and I'm fine with it. As long as "Love Song" by The Cure is played at some point, I'll be happy. I don't want the wedding march played at all. What we'll have instead, I don't know. I may let him surprise me, but I think that may result in the theme song from "Dr. Who" being played.

My wife and I got married when we were 16 and 17 respectively. Believe it or not we had Love Comes in Spurts by Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

My husband and I were married on top of a mountain near our home, and so there was no music except the breeze blowing through the pine trees and our voices intertwined with it. But at the reception, which followed at our house, we played "our" three songs: The Psychedelic Furs' "Here Come Cowboys" and Bruce Coburn's "Lovers In A Dangerous Time", and "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds. This was in 1989. We went to see "The Breakfast Club" on our first date.

Thank goodness for this thread! I need ideas for music... ESPECIALLY for the first dance!
So please, give me more ideas!
