The clothing giant 'Burberry' have taken umbrage against a small UK company which specialises in ferrets. The company, 'Ferret World', have recently marketed a line of ferret clothing in a light brown tartan which Burberry claim is too similar to their own unique brand. Despite an apology from Ferret world, Burberry have demanded the recall of all products sold.
I don't really agree with the sale of any 'clothing' for ferrets, or any other animals for that matter, but the products are quite amusing. I know there are a few forum members who keep ferrets, and they might also be amused by Ferret World's website, which presently also has an article on the Burberry issue.
See http://www.ferretworld.co.uk for more details.

Who on Earth would buy clothes for a ferret? The mind boggles. I would think I was going potty if I saw a ferret wearing a Father Christmas hat!

Mind you, I just saw a chihuahua sporting a Harley Davis motorcycle cap with sunglasses perched atop it. So why not a ferret?
They have halloween costume contests for pets here in the USA.

They sell all kinds of clothes for ferrets, just like they do for cats and dogs. I don't really like dressing any animals up, though. But I do think that Burberry is daft if they think they can go around saying that a plaid is "too close" to theirs. I mean, I can understand the desire to protect their brand identity, but there is such a thing as too far.

Agreed. Burberry's behaviour is just silly.

Burberry go to extremes to protect their brand, but there are claims that the camel background tartan existed well before the Burberry design, and that Burberry never really had any historical rights to it. The Clan Thomson camel tartan and the MacTavish tartan of 1906 are very similar to the modern Burberry design.
Almost by definition, many tartans have even greater similarities to one another, and the 'Ferret World' tartan design, apart from the camel background' is quite different from the Burberry.
Burberry are quite right to protect their products and well known design, but sometimes the adverse publicity may just be more damaging than any benefits.
